Bundles of straw, bundles of twigs, and bundles of green branches, if we prepared them for animal feed, we may handle them; and if not, we may not handle them. We may invert a basket in front of chicks so that they may [use it to] climb up and down. A hen that has run away, we may push her until she enters. We may make calves and foals walk in a public domain. A woman may make her child walk. Said R’ Yehudah: When? At the time he raises one foot and puts down the other; but if he drags [his feet], it is prohibited.

We may not assist an animal in delivering its young on Yom Tov, but we may sup-port [it]. We may assist a woman in childbirth on the Sabbath; we may call a midwife from place to place for her; we may desecrate the Sabbath on her behalf; and we may tie the umbilical cord. R’ Yose says: we may even cut [it]. And all requirements of circumcision may be performed on the Sabbath.
