הַמּוֹצִיא פוֹעֲלָיו לַשָּׂדֶה, בִּזְמַן שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם עָלָיו מְזוֹנוֹת, אוֹכְלִין וּפְטוּרִין. וְאִם יֵשׁ לָהֶם עָלָיו מְזוֹנוֹת, אוֹכְלִין אַחַת אַחַת מִן הַתְּאֵנָה, אֲבָל לֹא מִן הַסַּל, וְלֹא מִן הַקֻּפָּה, וְלֹא מִן הַמֻּקְצֶה.
[If] one takes his workers out to the field, when they do not have a claim on him for food, they may eat [figs there] and are exempt [from tithing them]. But if they have a claim on him for food, they may eat one at a time from the fig tree, but not from a basket, nor from a box, nor from a pile [of figs].

הַמַּעֲבִיר תְּאֵנִים בַּחֲצֵרוֹ לִקְצוֹת, בָּנָיו וּבְנֵי בֵיתוֹ אוֹכְלִים וּפְטוּרִין. הַפּוֹעֲלִים שֶׁעִמּוֹ, בִּזְמַן שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם עָלָיו מְזוֹנוֹת, אוֹכְלִין וּפְטוּרִין; אֲבָל אִם יֵשׁ לָהֶם עָלָיו מְזוֹנוֹת, הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ לֹא יֹאכְלוּ.
[If] one carries figs through his courtyard [on his way] to dry [them], his children and the members of his household may eat [the figs] and are exempt [from tithing them]. [Regarding] the laborers who are with him, when they have no claim on him for food, they may eat [the figs] and are exempt [from tithes]; but if they have a claim on him for food, they may not eat [the figs].
