[If] a ditch which passes through a vineyard is ten [handbreadths] deep and four wide, R’ Eliezer ben Yaakov says: If it stretches from one end of the vineyard to the [other] end, then it looks like it is between two vineyards, and it is permitted to plant inside it. But if not, then it is like a winepress. And [if] a winepress in a vineyard is ten deep and four wide, R’ Eliezer says: [It is permitted] to plant inside it. But the Sages forbid [this]. [If] the lookout in a vineyard is ten high and four wide, planting inside it [is permitted]. But if branches were intertwined [above it], it is forbidden.

[If] a vineyard is planted with less than four cubits [between rows], R’ Shimon says: It is not a vineyard. But the Sages say: [It is] a vineyard, and we view the interior [vines] as if they are not [present].
