[ו] עֵץ הַמְשַׁמֵּשׁ אֶת הַמַתֶּכֶת — טָמֵא, וְהַמַתֶּכֶת הַמְשַׁמֶשֶׁת אֶת הָעֵץ — טְהוֹרָה. כֵּיצַד? פּוֹתַחַת שֶׁל עֵץ וְהַפִּין שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת, אֲפִילּוּ אַחַת — טְמֵאָה. פּוֹתַחַת שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת וְהַפִּין שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל עֵץ — טְהוֹרָה.
טַבַּעַת שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת וְחוֹתָם שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל אַלְמוֹג — טְמֵאָה. טַבַּעַת שֶׁל אַלְמוֹג וְחוֹתָם שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת — טְהוֹרָה.
הַשֵּׁן שֶׁבַּטַּס, שֶׁבַּפּוֹתַחַת, וְשֶׁבַּמַּפְתֵּחַ — טְמֵאָה בִּפְנֵי עַצְמָהּ.
Wood that serves metal is tamei. And metal that serves wood is tahor. How so? A gate-key of wood whose bit is of metal, even one, is tamei. A gate-key of metal whose bit is of wood is tahor.
A ring of metal whose signet is of almog is tamei. A ring of almog whose signet is of metal is tahor.
The tooth of a plate, [or] of a gate-key, or of a [standard] key, is tamei on its own.

[ז] הַכְּדוּמִין הָאַשְׁקְלוֹנִין שֶׁנִּשְׁבְּרוּ וְהָאֻנְקְלִי שֶׁלָּהֶן קַיֶּמֶת — הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ טְמֵאִין.
הַמַּעְבֵּר, וְהַמִּזְרֶה, וְהַמַּגּוֹב, וְכֵן מַסְרֵק שֶׁל רֹאשׁ שֶׁנִּטְּלָה אַחַת מִשִּׁנֵּיהֶן וַעֲשָׂאָן שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת — הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ טְמֵאִין.
וְעַל כֻּלָּן אָמַר רַבִּי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ: דְּבַר חִדּוּשׁ חִדְּשׁוּ סוֹפְרִים, וְאֵין לִי מָה אָשִׁיב.
[Regarding] Ashkelonian grapnels that broke
but their hook remains intact, they are tamei.
A pitchfork, a winnowing fork, a rake, and similarly a head comb that had one of their prongs removed and one replaced them with [a prong] of metal, they are tamei.
And concerning all of these R’ Yehoshua said: The Scribes have introduced a novel principle, and I cannot answer it.
