A fire shovel whose scoop was removed is tamei since it is like a hammer; [these are] the words of R’ Meir. But the Sages rule [it] tahor. A saw whose teeth were removed one from every two is tahor. [If] there remains a sit’s measure in one place, it is tamei. The adze, the scalpel, the plane, and the auger that were damaged are tamei. [If] their cutting edge was removed, they are tahor. And all [these utensils] that broke in two are tamei, except the auger. The plane block alone is tahor.

A needle whose eye or point was removed is tahor. If one prepared it for stretching, it is tamei. [A needle] of sackmakers whose eye was removed is tamei, since one writes with it. [If] its point was removed, it is tahor. [If it is used] for stretching, [then] either way it is tamei. A needle that has become rusty, if [the rust] obstructs the stitching, it is tahor, but if not, it is tamei. A small fork that one straightened is tahor. [If] one bent it, it reverts to its [former state of] tumah.
