אֱלִישָׁע בֶּן אֲבוּיָה אוֹמֵר: הַלּוֹמֵד יֶלֶד לְמָה הוּא דוֹמֶה — לִדְיוֹ כְתוּבָה עַל נְיָר חָדָשׁ. וְהַלּוֹמֵד זָקֵן לְמָה הוּא דוֹמֶה — לִדְיוֹ כְתוּבָה עַל נְיָר מָחוּק. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי בַר יְהוּדָה אִישׁ כְּפַר הַבַּבְלִי אוֹמֵר: הַלּוֹמֵד מִן הַקְּטַנִּים לְמָה הוּא דוֹמֶה — לְאוֹכֵל עֲנָבִים קֵהוֹת וְשׁוֹתֶה יַיִן מִגִּתּוֹ. וְהַלּוֹמֵד מִן הַזְּקֵנִים לְמָה הוּא דוֹמֶה — לְאוֹכֵל עֲנָבִים בְּשׁוּלוֹת וְשׁוֹתֶה יַיִן יָשָׁן. רַבִּי אוֹמֵר: אַל תִּסְתַּכֵּל בַּקַּנְקַן, אֶלָּא בַמֶּה שֶׁיֶּשׁ בּוֹ. יֵשׁ קַנְקַן חָדָשׁ מָלֵא יָשָׁן — וְיָשָׁן שֶׁאֲפִלּוּ חָדָשׁ אֵין בּוֹ.
Elisha ben Avuyah says: One who studies [as] a child, to what is he compared? To ink written on new paper. And one who studies [as] an elder, to what is he compared? To ink written on erased paper. R' Yose bar Yehudah, leader of Kfar HaBavli, says: One who learns from children, to what is he compared? To one who eats acrid grapes and drinks wine from the press. And one who learns from elders, to what is he compared? To one who eats ripe grapes and drinks aged wine. Rebbi says: Do not look at the vessel, rather [look] at what it contains, [for] there can be a new [vessel] containing old [wine] and an old [vessel] which lacks even new [wine].
Avot4: 21
רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר הַקַּפָּר אוֹמֵר: הַקִּנְאָה וְהַתַּאֲוָה וְהַכָּבוֹד מוֹצִיאִין אֶת הָאָדָם מִן הָעוֹלָם.
Rabbi Elazar HaKappar says: Jealousy, lust, and honor remove a man from the world.
