Beis Shammai say: We may not move the ladder from one dovecote to another, but may lean it from one window to another. But Beis Hillel permit it. Beis Shammai say: One should not take [doves out of the dovecote on Yom Tov] unless one had held them before Yom Tov. But Beis Hillel say: He may stand and say, ‘‘This one and that one I will take.’’

If one had designated [before Yom Tov] black [doves] but [on Yom Tov] found white [doves], [or if he had designated] white [doves] but found black [doves], or [if he had designated] two and found three — they are prohibited. [If he had designated] three but found [only] two — they are permissible. [If the designated doves had been] in the nest, but he found [doves] in front of the nest, they are prohibited. But if there were none there except these, then these are permitted [to be slaughtered].
