Tevul Yom2: 1
Liquids [that emanate] from a tevul yom are like liquids that he touches: Both these [liquids] and those [liquids] do not render [foods] tamei. And with respect to all the other sources of tumah, whether they are [tamei] to a light [degree] or a severe [degree], liquids that emanate from them are like liquids that touch them: Both these [liquids] and those [liq- uids] are considered the beginning [level of tumah], with the exception of the liquid that is an av hatumah.
Tevul Yom2: 2
[Concerning] a pot that is full of liquids and was touched by a tevul yom: If the liquid was of terumah, the liquid is disqualified, but the pot is tahor; but if it was a liquid of chullin, everything is tahor. But if his hands were unclean, everything is tamei. This is a stringency [that applies] to [unclean] hands over a tevul yom. [There is] also a stringency [that applies] to a tevul yom over [unclean] hands: While an uncertainty concerning a tevul yom renders terumah pasul, an uncertainty concerning [unclean] hands is considered tahor.
Tevul Yom2: 3
[Concerning] a porridge [made] of terumah, and the garlic and oil are of chullin: [If] a tevul yom touched part of them, he has rendered all of them pasul. [If] the porridge was of chullin and the garlic and the oil were of terumah, and a tevul yom touched part of them, he has rendered pasul only the place of his touch. If the garlic was the majority, we follow the majority. R’ Yehudah says: When? When they form a mass in the bowl; but if it was separated in the mortar, it is tahor, since he wants its separation. And [the same applies to] all other pounded foods, if they were pounded with beverages. But [concerning] those [foods] that are normally pounded with beverages, [if] he pounded them without beverages, [even if] they are a mass in the bowl, they are [treated] like a round cake of pressed figs.
Tevul Yom2: 4
[If] a porridge and flat cake [were made] of chullin, and oil of terumah was floating on top of them, and a tevul yom touched the oil, he has rendered pasul only the oil. But if he stirred [it], wherever the oil flowed is rendered pasul.
Tevul Yom2: 5
[Regarding] sanctified meat upon which [a layer of] sediment congealed: [If] the tevul yom touched the sediment, the pieces of meat are permitted. [If] he touched a piece, the piece and everything that comes up with it are connected to one another. R’ Yochanan ben Nuri says: Both of them are connected to one another. And the same [applies] to legumes of which [a layer] congealed on top of slices [of bread]. Legumes prepared in a pot: When [the legumes] are separate, it is not [considered] a connection; when they form a mass, [it is considered] a connection. If they were many masses, they are counted. [If] oil was floating on top of wine, and a tevul yom touched the oil, he has rendered pasul only the oil. R’ Yochanan ben Nuri says: Both of them are connected to each other.
Tevul Yom2: 6
[If] a barrel sank into a pit containing wine, and a tevul yom touched it: [If he touched it] from the rim [of the barrel] and inward, it is [considered] a connection; [if he touched it] from the rim [of the barrel] and outward, it is not connected. R’ Yochanan ben Nuri says: Even if [the level of wine in the pit] above [the barrel] is equal to the height of [a person], and he touched [the wine] directly above the mouth of [the barrel], it is [considered] a connection.
Tevul Yom2: 7
[If] a barrel [of wine] developed a hole, whether in its top, its bottom, or its side, and a tevul yom touched it [there], [all the wine in the barrel] is tamei. R’ Yehudah says: [If the hole is] in the top or in the bottom of [the barrel], [all the wine] is tamei; [but if the hole is] in its side, [the wine] on this side and on that side is tahor. [If] one is pouring [liquid] from [one] vessel to [another] vessel, and a tevul yom touched the stream, if there is a sufficient volume [of tahor liquid] in [the receiving vessel], [the tamei liquid] is nullified in [a mixture of] one hundred and one.
Tevul Yom2: 8
[Concerning] a bubble in [the wall of] a barrel that was punctured, both on the inside and on the outside, whether at the top or at the bottom: [If the holes] are opposite each other, it becomes tamei [if touched] by an av hatumah and it is tamei [if it is under] the same roof as a corpse. [If] the inside [hole] is at the bottom, and the outside [hole] is at the top, it becomes tamei [if touched] by an av hatumah, and it is tamei [if it is under] the same roof as a corpse. [If] the inside [hole] is at the top, and the outside [hole] is at the bottom, it remains tahor [if touched] by an av hatumah but it is tamei [if it is under] the same roof as a corpse.
Tevul Yom3: 1
All yados of foods that are [considered] connected in [the case of] an av hatumah are [considered] connected in [the case of] a tevul yom. [Regarding] a [piece of] food that separated [into two parts] but is [still] partially attached, R’ Meir says: If he grasps [and lifts] the larger part and the smaller part comes up with it, then it is as one with it. R’ Yehudah says: If he grasps [and lifts] the smaller part and the larger part comes up with it, then it is as one with it. R’ Nechemiah says: [He grasps it] by the tahor part. But the Sages say: [He grasps it] by the tamei part. And [regarding] all other foods, that which is ordinarily grasped by the leaf, is grasped by the leaf. And [that which is ordinarily grasped] by the stalk, is grasped by the stalk.
Tevul Yom3: 2
[Regarding] a vegetable of terumah with a beaten egg placed on top of it, and a tevul yom touched the egg, he has rendered pasul only the stalk opposite him. R’ Yose says: [He renders pasul] the entire upper layer. [However,] if [the egg] was like a helmet, there is no connection.
Tevul Yom3: 3
[Regarding] a streak of egg that was baked onto the walls of a pan, and a tevul yom touched it, from the rim and inward, [it is] a connection. From the rim and outward, it is not a connection. R’ Yose says: The streak and all that peels off with it. The same [ruling applies] to legumes that formed a crust on the edge of a pot.
Tevul Yom3: 4
A dough that became a dimua mixture, or that was leavened with sourdough of terumah, is not rendered pasul by [the touch of] a tevul yom. [But] R’ Yose and R’ Shimon rule it pasul. [Regarding] a dough that was rendered susceptible to tumah by a beverage and was kneaded with fruit juice, and a tevul yom touched it, R’ Elazar ben Yehudah, leader of Bartosa, says in the name of R’ Yehoshua: [The tevul yom] has rendered pasul the entire [dough]. R’ Akiva says in [R’ Yehoshua’s] name: He has rendered pasul only the place he touched.
Tevul Yom3: 5
[Regarding] chullin vegetables that were cooked with oil of terumah, and a tevul yom touched it, R’ Elazar ben Yehudah, leader of Bartosa, says in the name of R’ Yehoshua: [The tevul yom] has rendered pasul the entire [dish of vegetables]. R’ Akiva says in [R’ Yehoshua’s] name: He has rendered pasul only the place of his touch.
