Machshirin4: 6
קֻפָּה שֶׁהִיא מְלֵאָה תֻּרְמוֹסִין, וּנְתָנוּהָ לְתוֹךְ מִקְוֶה — מוֹשִׁיט יָדוֹ וְנוֹטֵל תֻּרְמוֹסִין מִתּוֹכָהּ, וְהֵם טְהוֹרִים. הֶעֱלָם מִן הַמַּיִם, הַנּוֹגְעִים בַּקֻּפָּה — טְמֵאִים, וּשְׁאָר כָּל הַתֻּרְמוֹסִים — טְהוֹרִים.  צְנוֹן שֶׁבַּמְּעָרָה — נִדָּה מַדִּיחַתּוּ וְהוּא טָהוֹר. הֶעֱלַתּוּ כָּל שֶׁהוּא מִן הַמַּיִם — טָמֵא.
[Regarding] a basket that is filled with turmosin and one placed it in a mikveh, he may stretch out his hand and take turmosin from within [the basket], and [yet] they are tahor. [If] he removed [the turmosin] from the water, those that touch the bas-ket are tamei, but [as for] the rest of the turmosin, they are tahor.  [Regarding] a radish in a cave, a niddah may rinse it and [yet] it is tahor. [If] she lifts it even a little bit from the water, [it is] tamei.
Machshirin4: 7
פֵּרוֹת שֶׁנָּפְלוּ לְתוֹךְ אַמַּת הַמַּיִם, פָּשַׁט מִי שֶׁהָיוּ יָדָיו טְמֵאוֹת וּנְטָלָן — יָדָיו טְהוֹרוֹת, וְהַפֵּרוֹת טְהוֹרִים. וְאִם חִשֵּׁב שֶׁיִּדּוֹחוּ יָדָיו — יָדָיו טְהוֹרוֹת, וְהַפֵּרוֹת בְּכִי יֻתַּן.
[Regarding] produce that fell into a channel of water, [and] someone whose hands were tamei stretched [out his hand] and took it, his hands are tahor, and the produce is tahor. But if he intended that his hands be rinsed, his hands are tahor, but the produce is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”
Machshirin4: 8
קְדֵרָה שֶׁהִיא מְלֵאָה מַיִם וּנְתוּנָה לְתוֹךְ הַמִּקְוֶה, וּפָשַׁט אַב הַטֻּמְאָה אֶת יָדוֹ לְתוֹכָהּ — טְמֵאָה. מַגַּע טֻמְאוֹת — טְהוֹרָה. וּשְׁאָר כָּל הַמַּשְׁקִין — טְמֵאִין, שֶׁאֵין הַמַּיִם מְטַהֲרִים אֶת שְׁאָר הַמַּשְׁקִין.
[Regarding] a pot that is full of water and it was placed in a mikveh and an av hatumah stretched out his hand [and inserted it] into [the pot], [the pot is] tamei. [If the person was tamei through] contact with [a source of] tumah, [the pot] is tahor. But [as for] all other liquids, [they are] tamei, because water does not purify other liquids.
Machshirin4: 9
הַמְמַלֵּא בְּקִילוֹן — עַד שְׁלֹשָׁה יָמִים, טְמֵאִין. רַבִּי עֲקִיבָא אוֹמֵר: אִם נָגְבוּ — מִיָּד טְהוֹרִים, וְאִם לֹא נָגְבוּ — אֲפִלּוּ עַד שְׁלֹשִׁים יוֹם, טְמֵאִים.
[Regarding] one who fills an irrigation pipe, until three days [have elapsed], it is tamei. R’ Akiva says: If [the water in the pipe] dried up, it is tahor immediately. But if it did not dry, even until thirty days [have passed], it is tamei.
Machshirin4: 10
עֵצִים שֶׁנָּפְלוּ עֲלֵיהֶם מַשְׁקִין וְיָרְדוּ עֲלֵיהֶם גְּשָׁמִים — אִם רַבּוּ, טְהוֹרִים. הוֹצִיאָם שֶׁיֵּרְדוּ עֲלֵיהֶם גְּשָׁמִים — אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁרַבּוּ, טְמֵאִים.  בָּלְעוּ מַשְׁקִים טְמֵאִים — אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁהוֹצִיאָם שֶׁיֵּרְדוּ עֲלֵיהֶן גְּשָׁמִים, טְהוֹרִין. וְלֹא יַסִּיקֵם אֶלָּא בְּיָדַיִם טְהוֹרוֹת בִּלְבַד. רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן אוֹמֵר: אִם הָיוּ לַחִין וְהִסִּיקָן, וְרַבּוּ הַמַּשְׁקִין הַיּוֹצְאִין מֵהֶן עַל הַמַּשְׁקִין שֶׁבָּלְעוּ — טְהוֹרִים.
[Regarding] logs upon which a liquid fell and then rain fell on them, if [the volume of rainwater] exceeded [the volume of the liquid], it is tahor. [If] he took [the logs] outside so that rain should fall on them, [then] even though [the volume of rainwa-ter] exceeded [the volume of the liquid], it is tamei.  [If the logs] absorbed tamei liquids, [then] even though he took them outside so rain should fall on them, [the rainwater] is tahor. But he should kindle them only with tahor hands. R’ Shimon says: If [the logs] were moist and he kindled them, and the [volume of the] liquid they exuded was greater than the [volume of the] liquid they absorbed, [the liquid] is tahor.
Machshirin5: 1
מִי שֶׁטָּבַל בַּנָּהָר, וְהָיָה לְפָנָיו נָהָר אַחֵר וְעָבַר בּוֹ — טִהֲרוּ שְׁנִיִּים אֶת הָרִאשׁוֹנִים. דָּחָהוּ חֲבֵרוֹ לְשָׁכְרוֹ, וְכֵן לִבְהֶמְתּוֹ — טִהֲרוּ שְׁנִיִּים אֶת הָרִאשׁוֹנִים; וְאִם כִּמְשַׂחֵק עִמּוֹ — הֲרֵי זֶה בְּכִי יֻתַּן.
[If] someone immersed in a river, and there was another river in front of him, and he crossed it, [the water of] the second [river] cleanses [the water of] the first [river].  [If] his friend pushed him due to his drunkenness, and likewise to his ani-mal, [the water of] the second [river] cleanses [the water of] the first [river]. But if he was sporting with him, it is included in [the law of] “if [water] is placed.”
Machshirin5: 2
הַשָּׁט עַל פְּנֵי הַמַּיִם — הַנִּתָּזִין אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן. וְאִם נִתְכַּוֵּן לְהַתִּיז עַל חֲבֵרוֹ — הֲרֵי זֶה בְּכִי יֻתַּן. הָעוֹשֶׂה צִפּוֹר בַּמַּיִם — הַנִּתָּזִין וְאֶת שֶׁבָּהּ אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן.
[If] someone swims on the water, the [water that] splashes is not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.” But if he in-tended to splash [water] on his friend, this is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”  [If] someone makes bubbles in the water, the [water that] splashes and that which is in it are not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”
Machshirin5: 3
פֵּרוֹת שֶׁיָּרַד הַדֶּלֶף לְתוֹכָן וּבְלָלָן שֶׁיְּנוּגְּבוּ, רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן אוֹמֵר: בְּכִי יֻתַּן. וַחֲכָמִים אוֹמְרִים: אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן.
[Concerning] produce into which a leak drips, and he mixed them so that they may dry, R’ Shimon says: [They are] included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.” But the Sages say: They are not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”
Machshirin5: 4
הַמּוֹדֵד אֶת הַבּוֹר בֵּין לְעָמְקוֹ בֵּין לְרָחְבּוֹ — הֲרֵי זֶה בְּכִי יֻתַּן; דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי טַרְפוֹן. רַבִּי עֲקִיבָא אוֹמֵר: לְעָמְקוֹ — בְּכִי יֻתַּן, וּלְרָחְבּוֹ — אֵינוֹ בְּכִי יֻתַּן.
[If] someone measured a cistern, whether along its depth or along its width, it is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.” [These are] the words of R’ Tarfon. R’ Akiva says: Along its depth, it is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed”; but along its width, it is not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”
Machshirin5: 5
פָּשַׁט יָדוֹ אוֹ רַגְלוֹ אוֹ קָנֶה לַבּוֹר לֵידַע אִם יֶשׁ בּוֹ מַיִם — אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן; לֵידַע כַּמָּה מַיִם יֶשׁ בּוֹ — הֲרֵי זֶה בְּכִי יֻתַּן.  זָרַק אֶבֶן לַבּוֹר לֵידַע אִם יֶשׁ בּוֹ מַיִם — הַנִּתָּזִין אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן, וְאֶת שֶׁבָּאֶבֶן — טְהוֹרִים.
[If] one stretched out his hand, his foot, or a reed into a cistern to ascertain whether it contains water, it is not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed”; to ascertain how much water it contains, it is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”  [If] he threw a rock into the cistern to ascertain whether it contains water, the [water that] splashes is not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed”; and that which is on the stone is tahor.
Machshirin5: 6
הַחוֹבֵט עַל הַשֶּׁלַח, חוּץ לַמַּיִם — בְּכִי יֻתַּן; לְתוֹךְ הַמַּיִם — אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹמֵר: אַף לְתוֹךְ הַמַּיִם בְּכִי יֻתַּן, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהוּא מִתְכַּוֵּן שֶׁיֵּצְאוּ עִם הַצּוֹאָה.
[If] someone beats on a hide; [if it was] outside the water, it is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed”; [if it was] inside the water, it is not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.” R’ Yose says: Even [if it was] inside the water, it is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed,” since his intention is that it should emerge together with the dirt.
Machshirin5: 7
הַמַּיִם הָעוֹלִין בַּסְּפִינָה וּבַעֵקֶל וּבַמְּשׁוֹטוֹת — אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן; בַּמְּצוֹדוֹת וּבָרְשָׁתוֹת וּבַמִּכְמָרוֹת — אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן; וְאִם נִעֵר — בְּכִי יֻתַּן.  הַמּוֹלִיךְ אֶת הַסְּפִינָה לַיָּם הַגָּדוֹל לְצָרְפָהּ, הַמּוֹצִיא מַסְמֵר בַּגְּשָׁמִים לְצָרְפוֹ, הַמַּנִּיחַ אֶת הָאוּד בַּגְּשָׁמִים לְכַבּוֹתוֹ — הֲרֵי זֶה בְּכִי יֻתַּן.
The water that comes up on a boat, in the bilge, or on the oars is not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed”; on the traps and various types of nets is not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.” But if he shook them, it is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”  [If] someone transports a boat to the Great Sea in order to strengthen it, if he takes a nail out to the rain to strengthen it, [or] if he leaves a firebrand in the rain in order to extinguish it, this is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”
Machshirin5: 8
קַסְיָא שֶׁל שֻׁלְחָנוֹת, וְהַשִּׁיפָא שֶׁל לְבֵנִים — אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן; וְאִם נִעֵר — בְּכִי יֻתַּן.
The cover of tables, and the mat of the bricks, are not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.” But if he shook [them, they are included in the law of] ”if [water] is placed.”
Machshirin5: 9
כָּל הַנִּצּוֹק — טָהוֹר, חוּץ מִדְּבַשׁ הַזִּיפִין וְהַצַּפַּחַת. בֵּית שַׁמַּאי אוֹמְרִים: אַף הַמִּקְפָּה שֶׁל גְּרִיסִין וְשֶׁל פּוֹל, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהִיא סוֹלֶדֶת לְאַחֲרֶיהָ.
Any stream [of liquid] is tahor, except for ziphite honey and tzapachas. Beis Shammai say: Also a porridge of split beans or of whole beans, because its [stream] springs back.
Machshirin5: 10
הַמְעָרֶה מֵחַם לְחַם, וּמִצּוֹנֵן לְצוֹנֵן, וּמֵחַם לְצוֹנֵן — טָהוֹר; מִצּוֹנֵן לְחַם — טָמֵא. רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן אוֹמֵר: אַף הַמְעָרֶה מֵחַם לְחַם, וְכֹחוֹ שֶׁל תַּחְתּוֹן יָפֶה מִשֶּׁל עֶלְיוֹן — טָמֵא.
[If] one pours from a hot [vessel] into a hot [vessel], or from a cold [vessel] into a cold [vessel], or from a hot [vessel] into a cold [vessel], [it is] tahor; from a cold [vessel] into a hot [vessel], [it is] tamei. R’ Shimon says: Even [if] one pours from a hot [vessel] into a hot [vessel], and the strength of the lower [one] is greater than that of the upper [one], [it is] tamei.
Machshirin5: 11
הָאִשָּׁה שֶׁהָיוּ יָדֶיהָ טְהוֹרוֹת, וּמְגִיסָה בִקְדֵרָה טְמֵאָה, אִם הֵזִיעוּ יָדֶיהָ — טְמֵאוֹת. הָיוּ יָדֶיהָ טְמֵאוֹת, וּמְגִיסָה בִקְדֵרָה טְהוֹרָה, אִם הֵזִיעוּ יָדֶיהָ — הַקְּדֵרָה טְמֵאָה. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹמֵר: אִם נָטָפוּ.  הַשּׁוֹקֵל עֲנָבִים בְּכַף מֹאזְנַיִם — הַיַּיִן שֶׁבַּכַּף טָהוֹר, עַד שֶׁיְּעָרֶה לְתוֹךְ הַכֶּלִי. הֲרֵי זֶה דּוֹמֶה לְסַלֵּי זֵיתִים וַעֲנָבִים כְּשֶׁהֵן מְנַטְּפִין.
[If] a woman whose hands were tahor was stirring a tamei pot, if her hands perspired, [they are] tamei. [If] her hands were tamei, and she was stirring a tahor pot, if her hands perspired, the pot is tamei. R’ Yose says: If they dripped.  [If] someone weighed grapes in the pan of a scale, the wine in the pan is tahor until he pours it into a container. This is similar to baskets of olives and grapes when they are dripping.
Machshirin6: 1
הַמַּעֲלֶה פֵּרוֹתָיו לַגַּג מִפְּנֵי הַכְּנִימָה, וְיָרַד עֲלֵיהֶם טַל — אֵינָם בְּכִי יֻתַּן. אִם נִתְכַּוֵּן לְכָךְ — הֲרֵי זֶה בְּכִי יֻתַּן.  הֶעֱלָן חֵרֵשׁ שׁוֹטֶה וְקָטָן, אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁחִשֵּׁב שֶׁיֵּרֵד עֲלֵיהֶן הַטַּל — אֵינָן בְּכִי יֻתַּן, שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָהֶן מַעֲשֶׂה וְאֵין לָהֶן מַחֲשָׁבָה.
[If] someone took his produce up to the roof on account of insects and dew descends on it, it is not included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed”; if he intended for this, it is included in [the law of] ”if [water] is placed.” [If] a deaf-mute, deranged person, or minor took up [produce], even if he intended for the dew to fall upon [the pro-duce], it is not included in [the law of] “if [water] is placed,” for they have an act but not intent.
