One who locks the olive-press because of the pressers but there were [in the olive-press] vessels that were tamei midras, R’ Meir says: The olive-press is tamei. R’ Yehudah says: The olive press is tahor. R’ Shimon says: If [the vessels] are tahor for them, the olive-press is tamei; if [the vessels] are tamei for them, the olive-press is tahor. R’ Yose said: But why are [the contents of the press] tamei? Only because amei haaretz are not acquainted with [the tumah of] movement.
Taharos10: 2
Pressers were coming in and going out [of the olive-press], and there were tamei beverages in the olive-press; if between the beverages and the olives there is enough [distance] for them to dry their feet on the ground, [the olives] are tahor. [If] in front of the pressers and the grape-harvesters there was tumah, they are believed to say, “We did not touch [it].” And similarly the children among them may go outside the entrance of the olive-press and relieve themselves behind the fence, and they are [deemed to still be] tahor. How far may they go and remain tahor? [Only] as far as he can [still] see them.
Taharos10: 3
[With regard to] olive-pressers and grape-harvesters, once he brings them into the area of the cave, it is sufficient; [these are] the words of R’ Meir. R’ Yose says: He must stand over them until they immerse. R’ Shimon says: If they are tahor to themselves, he must stand over them until they immerse; if they are tamei to themselves, he does not have to stand over them until they immerse.
Taharos10: 4
One who places [grapes taken] from the bas-kets and from the expanse on the ground [on to the wine-press], Beis Shammai say: He must put [them in the wine-press] with hands that are tahor; and if he puts [them in the wine-press] with hands that are tamei, he has rendered [the grapes] tamei. Beis Hillel say: He may put [the grapes in the wine-press] with hands that are tamei, and [can still] separate their terumah in taharah. [If one took grapes] from a bucket or from an expanse on leaves, everyone agrees that he must put [them in the wine-press] with hands that are tahor, and if he put [them in the wine-press] with hands that are tamei, he has rendered [the grapes] tamei.
Taharos10: 5
One who eats [grapes taken] from baskets and from an expanse on the ground, even if [the grapes] are cracked and [their juice is] drip-ping onto the wine-press, the wine-press is tahor. [If the grapes are] from a bucket or from an expanse of leaves and a single grape fell [onto the wine-press], if [the grape] has a seal, [the wine-press is] tahor; if it does not have a seal, [the wine-press is] tamei. [If a cluster of] grapes fell from him and he pressed them on an empty place [on the wine-press, if the cluster consists of] precisely the volume of an egg, [the wine-press is] tahor; [if the cluster consists of] more than the volume of an egg, [the wine-press is] tamei, for as soon as the first drop [of juice] came out, it was rendered tamei by the volume of an egg.
Taharos10: 6
[If] someone was standing and talking on the rim of a pit [of wine] and saliva spurted out of his mouth, [and there is] a doubt whether [the saliva] reached the pit or did not reach [it], the uncertainty is [ruled] tahor.
Taharos10: 7
[Regarding] one who was emptying a pit, [and] a sheretz was found in the first [barrel], all [the barrels] are tamei; [if it was found] in the last [barrel], [that barrel] is tamei and all [the others] are tahor. When is this? When he empties [the pit] using each [barrel]. But if he empties [the pit] with a dipper, [if] a sheretz was found in one of [the barrels], that one alone is tamei. When is this? When he checks [the barrels] but does not cover [them], or he covers [them] but does not check them. [But if] he checks [the barrels] and he covers [them], and a sheretz was found in a barrel, everything is tamei; [if the sheretz was found] in the pit, everything is tamei; [if it was found] in the ladle, everything is tamei.

[The section] between the rounds and the grape skins is a public domain. The [section of the] vineyard that is in front of the harvesters is a private domain. That which is behind the harvesters is a public domain. When is this? When the public enters from this [opening] and leaves from that [opening]. Vessels of the olive-press, and of the wine press, [such as] a mesh basket, when they are [made] of wood, he scours them and they are [suitable to be made] tahor. When they are [made] of gemi, he ages them for a full twelve months, or scalds them in boiling water. R’ Yose says: If he put them in the rapids of a river, it suf-fices.
