Taharos1: 2
The feathers and the down acquire tumah and convey tumah, but do not combine. R’ Yish-mael says: The small feathers com-bine. The beak and the claws acquire tumah and convey tumah and combine. R’ Yose says: Even the tips of the wings and the tip of the tail combine, since these are left on fattened birds.
Taharos1: 3
The carcass of a nonkosher bird needs intention and preparation, it conveys the tumah of foods in the volume of an egg, half a half-loaf disqualifies a person, it does not have [the law of] the volume of an olive in the esophagus, someone who eats it does not need the setting of the sun, one is not liable on its account for entering the Temple, but terumah is burned on its account, someone who eats a limb [severed] from it while it is alive does not receive forty [lashes, and] its slaughter does not render it ta-hor. The large feathers and the small feathers acquire tumah and convey tumah and combine. The beak and the claws acquire tumah, convey tumah, and combine.
Taharos1: 4
And with animals: The hide, the gravy, the spices, the elal, the bones, the gidim, the horns, the hooves, combine to convey the tumah of foods, but not the tumah of neveilah. Similarly, [if] someone slaughters a nonkosher animal for a non-Jew and it is convulsing, it conveys the tumah of foods, but not the tumah of neveilah until it dies or until he chops off its head. [The Torah] has provided more things that convey the tumah of foods than that convey the tumah of neveilah.
Taharos1: 5
Food that contracted tumah from an av hatumah and food that contracted tumah from a derivative tumah combine with one another to convey tumah according to [the level of] the lesser of the two. How so? The volume of half an egg of rishon food and the volume of half an egg of sheni food that one mixed together, [is] a sheni. The volume of half an egg of sheni food and the volume of half an egg of shlishi food that one mixed together, [is] a shlishi. The volume of an egg of rishon food and the vol-ume of an egg of sheni food that one mixed together, [is] a rishon. [If] he separated them, this is a sheni and this is a sheni. [If] this one fell by itself and that one [fell] by itself onto a loaf of terumah, they disqualify it. [If] they both fell together, they make it a sheni.
Taharos1: 6

The volume of an egg of sheni food and the volume of an egg of shlishi food that one mixed together, [is] a sheni. [If] he split them, this one is a shlishi and that one is a shlishi. [If] this one fell by itself and that one [fell] by itself onto a loaf of terumah, they do not disqualify it. [If] they both fell together, they make it a shlishi. The volume of an egg of rishon food and the volume of an egg of shlishi food that one mixed together, [is] a rishon. [If] he split them, this one is a sheni and that one is a sheni, because even the shlishi that touched the rishon became a sheni. The volume of two eggs of rishon food, [and] the volume of two eggs of sheni food that one mixed together, [is] a rishon. [If] he split them [in two], this one is a rishon and that one is a rishon. Into three or into four, they are a sheni. The volume of two eggs of sheni food and the volume of two eggs of shlishi food that one mixed together, [is] a sheni. [If] he split them [in two], this one is a sheni and that one is a sheni. Into three or four, they are a shlishi.
Taharos1: 7
Slices of dough that cleave to one another, or loaves that cleave to one another: [If] one of them was contaminated by a sheretz, they are all starting [level]; [if] they [then] came apart, they are all starting [level]. [If they contracted tumah] from liq-uids, they are all sheni; [if] they came apart, they are all sheni. [If they contracted tumah] from [unwashed] hands, they are all shlishi; [if] they came apart, they are all shlishi.
Taharos1: 8
[If] a slice of dough was starting [level] and one attached others to it, all of them are starting [level]. [If] they separated, it is starting [level] and all [the rest] of them are sheni. [If] it was a sheni and he attached others to it, they are all sheni. [If] they separated, it is a sheni and all [the rest] of them are shlishi. [If] it was a shlishi and he attached others to it, it is a shlishi, and all of them are tahor, whether they separated or they did not separate.
Taharos1: 9
Consecrated loaves that have sacred water in their cavities: [If] one of them was con-taminated by a sheretz, they are all tamei. With terumah, it contaminates two and disqualifies one. If between them there is liquid that can moisten, even with terumah all is tamei.
Taharos2: 1
[If] a woman was pickling greens in a pot, and she touched a leaf that was outside the pot, on a dry spot, even though it has the volume of an egg, it is tamei, but all [the rest] is tahor. [If] she touched on a wet spot: if it contains the volume of an egg, eve-ry-thing is tamei; [if] it does not contain the volume of an egg, it is tamei and everything [else] is tahor. [If] it returned to the pot, everything is tamei. [If] she was tamei as a result of contact with one who contracted tumah from a corpse, and she touched either a wet spot or a dry spot: if it con-tains the volume of an egg, everything is tamei; [if] it does not contain the vol-ume of an egg, it is tamei and everything [else] is tahor. [If] a woman who was a tevul yom was pouring out [the con-tents of] the pot with unwashed hands, and she saw liquid on her hands, [and] it is uncertain whether it sprayed from the pot or whether the stalk touched her hands, the greens are disqualified, but the pot is tahor.
Taharos2: 2
R’ Eliezer says: One who eats a rishon food [becomes] a rishon; a sheni food, [becomes] a sheni; a shlishi food, [becomes] a shlishi. R’ Yehoshua says: One who eats a rishon food or a sheni food [becomes] a sheni; [if he eats] a shlishi [food, he becomes] a sheni for sacrificial things but not a sheni for terumah; with chullin that was made to the taharah standards of terumah.
Taharos2: 3
The rishon of chullin can become tamei and can contaminate with tumah; the sheni disqualifies, but does not contaminate with tumah; and the shlishi may be eaten in a dish containing terumah.
Taharos2: 4
The rishon and the sheni of terumah are tamei and contaminate with tumah; the shlishi disqualifies and does not contaminate with tumah; and the revi’i may be eaten in a dish containing sacrificial foods.
