[א] הַסַּיִף, וְהַסַּכִּין, וְהַפִּגְיוֹן, וְהָרֹמַח, מַגַּל יָד, וּמַגַּל קָצִיר, וְהַשְּׁחוֹר, וְהַזוּג שֶׁל סַפָּרִים, שֶׁנֶּחְלְקוּ — הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ טְמֵאִין. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹמֵר: הַסָּמוּךְ לַיָּד — טָמֵא, וְהַסָּמוּךְ לָרֹאשׁ — טָהוֹר.
מִסְפֶּרֶת שֶׁנֶּחְלְקָה לִשְׁנַיִם — רַבִּי יְהוּדָה מְטַמֵּא, וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין.
A sword, a knife, a dagger, a spear, a hand sickle, a reaping sickle, a trimming scissors, and the scissors of barbers that were separated, they are tamei. R’ Yose says: The [part] closer to the handle is tamei, but the [part] closer to the tip is tahor.
[Regarding] shears that were separated into two [parts]: R’ Yehudah rules [them] tamei, but the Sages rule [them] tahor.

[ב] קוֹלִיגְרִיפוֹן שֶׁנִּטְּלָה כַפָּהּ — טְמֵאָה מִפְּנֵי שִׁנָּהּ. נִטְּלָה שִׁנָּהּ — טְמֵאָה מִפְּנֵי כַפָּהּ.
מִכְחוֹל שֶׁנִּטַּל הַכַּף — טָמֵא מִפְּנֵי הַזָּכָר. נִטַּל הַזָּכָר — טָמֵא מִפְּנֵי הַכַּף.
מַכְתֵּב שֶׁנִּטַּל הַכּוֹתֵב — טָמֵא מִפְּנֵי הַמּוֹחֵק. נִטַּל הַמּוֹחֵק — טָמֵא מִפְּנֵי הַכּוֹתֵב.
זוֹמָאלִסְטְרָא שֶׁנִּטְּלָה כַפָּהּ — טְמֵאָה מִפְּנֵי הַמַּזְלֵג. נִטַּל הַמַּזְלֵג — טְמֵאָה מִפְּנֵי כַפָּהּ. וְכֵן הַשֵּׁן שֶׁל מַעְדֵּר.
שִׁעוּר כֻּלָּן — כְּדֵי לַעֲשׂוֹת מְלַאכְתָּן.
A kaligryphon whose spoon was removed is tamei on account of its teeth. [If] its teeth were removed, it is tamei on account of its spoon.
An applicator whose spoon was removed is tamei on account of its tip. [If] the tip was removed, it is tamei on account of its spoon.
A stylus whose nib was removed is tamei on account of the eraser. [If] the eraser was removed, it is tamei on account of the nib.
A zomalystera whose spoon was removed is tamei on account of the fork. [If] the fork was removed, it is tamei on account of its spoon. And the same applies to the teeth of a tiller.
The measure for all of these is [as much as is necessary] in order to do their work.

[ג] חַרְחוּר שֶׁנִּפְגַּם — טָמֵא, עַד שֶׁיִּנָּטֵל רֻבּוֹ. נִשְׁבַּר מַקּוּפוֹ — טָהוֹר.
קַרְדּוֹם שֶׁנִּטַּל עֻשְׁפּוֹ — טָמֵא מִפְּנֵי בֵית בִּקּוּעוֹ. נִטַּל בֵּית בִּקּוּעוֹ — טָמֵא מִפְּנֵי עֻשְׁפּוֹ. נִשְׁבַּר מַקּוּפוֹ — טָהוֹר.
A blade that was damaged is tamei until the majority of it is removed. [If] its socket broke, it is tahor.
An ax whose broad blade was removed is tamei on account of its splitting blade. [If] its splitting blade was removed, it is tamei on account of its broad blade. [If] its socket broke, it is tahor.

[ד] מַגְרֵפָה שֶׁנִּטְּלָה כַפָּהּ — טְמֵאָה, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהִיא כְקֻרְנָס, דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי מֵאִיר; וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין.
מְגֵרָה שֶׁנִּטְּלוּ שִׁנֶּיהָ אַחַת מִבֵּינְתַיִם — טְהוֹרָה. נִשְׁתַּיֵּר בָּהּ מְלֹא הַסִּיט בְּמָקוֹם אֶחָד — טְמֵאָה.
הַמַּעֲצָד, וְהָאִזְמֵל, וְהַמַּפְסֶלֶת, וְהַמַּקְדֵּחַ, שֶׁנִּפְגְּמוּ — טְמֵאִים. נִטַּל חִסּוּמָן — טְהוֹרִין. וְכֻלָּן שֶׁנֶּחְלְקוּ לִשְׁנַיִם — טְמֵאִים, חוּץ מִן הַמַּקְדֵּחַ. וְהָרוֹקְנִי בִּפְנֵי עַצְמָהּ — טְהוֹרָה.
A fire shovel whose scoop was removed is tamei since it is like a hammer; [these are] the words of R’ Meir. But the Sages rule [it] tahor.
A saw whose teeth were removed one from every two is tahor. [If] there remains a sit’s measure in one place, it is tamei.
The adze, the scalpel, the plane, and the auger that were damaged are tamei. [If] their cutting edge was removed, they are tahor. And all [these utensils] that broke in two are tamei, except the auger. The plane block alone is tahor.

[ה] מַחַט שֶׁנִּטַּל חֲרִירָהּ אוֹ עֻקְצָהּ — טְהוֹרָה. אִם הִתְקִינָהּ לְמִתּוּחַ — טְמֵאָה.
שֶׁל סַקָּיִין שֶׁנִּטַּל חֲרִירָהּ — טְמֵאָה, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהוּא כוֹתֵב בָּהּ. נִטַּל עֻקְצָהּ — טְהוֹרָה. שֶׁל מִתּוּחַ — בֵּין כָּךְ וּבֵין כָּךְ טְמֵאָה.
מַחַט שֶׁהֶעֶלְתָה חֲלוּדָה, אִם מְעַכֶּבֶת אֶת הַתְּפִירָה — טְהוֹרָה, וְאִם לָאו — טְמֵאָה.
צִנּוֹרָא שֶׁפְּשָׁטָהּ — טְהוֹרָה. כְּפָפָהּ — חָזְרָה לְטֻמְאָתָהּ.
A needle whose eye or point was removed is tahor. If one prepared it for stretching, it is tamei.
[A needle] of sackmakers whose eye was removed is tamei, since one writes with it. [If] its point was removed, it is tahor. [If it is used] for stretching, [then] either way it is tamei.
A needle that has become rusty, if [the rust] obstructs the stitching, it is tahor, but if not, it is tamei.
A small fork that one straightened is tahor. [If] one bent it, it reverts to its [former state of] tumah.

[ו] עֵץ הַמְשַׁמֵּשׁ אֶת הַמַתֶּכֶת — טָמֵא, וְהַמַתֶּכֶת הַמְשַׁמֶשֶׁת אֶת הָעֵץ — טְהוֹרָה. כֵּיצַד? פּוֹתַחַת שֶׁל עֵץ וְהַפִּין שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת, אֲפִילּוּ אַחַת — טְמֵאָה. פּוֹתַחַת שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת וְהַפִּין שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל עֵץ — טְהוֹרָה.
טַבַּעַת שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת וְחוֹתָם שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל אַלְמוֹג — טְמֵאָה. טַבַּעַת שֶׁל אַלְמוֹג וְחוֹתָם שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת — טְהוֹרָה.
הַשֵּׁן שֶׁבַּטַּס, שֶׁבַּפּוֹתַחַת, וְשֶׁבַּמַּפְתֵּחַ — טְמֵאָה בִּפְנֵי עַצְמָהּ.
Wood that serves metal is tamei. And metal that serves wood is tahor. How so? A gate-key of wood whose bit is of metal, even one, is tamei. A gate-key of metal whose bit is of wood is tahor.
A ring of metal whose signet is of almog is tamei. A ring of almog whose signet is of metal is tahor.
The tooth of a plate, [or] of a gate-key, or of a [standard] key, is tamei on its own.

[ז] הַכְּדוּמִין הָאַשְׁקְלוֹנִין שֶׁנִּשְׁבְּרוּ וְהָאֻנְקְלִי שֶׁלָּהֶן קַיֶּמֶת — הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ טְמֵאִין.
הַמַּעְבֵּר, וְהַמִּזְרֶה, וְהַמַּגּוֹב, וְכֵן מַסְרֵק שֶׁל רֹאשׁ שֶׁנִּטְּלָה אַחַת מִשִּׁנֵּיהֶן וַעֲשָׂאָן שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת — הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ טְמֵאִין.
וְעַל כֻּלָּן אָמַר רַבִּי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ: דְּבַר חִדּוּשׁ חִדְּשׁוּ סוֹפְרִים, וְאֵין לִי מָה אָשִׁיב.
[Regarding] Ashkelonian grapnels that broke
but their hook remains intact, they are tamei.
A pitchfork, a winnowing fork, a rake, and similarly a head comb that had one of their prongs removed and one replaced them with [a prong] of metal, they are tamei.
And concerning all of these R’ Yehoshua said: The Scribes have introduced a novel principle, and I cannot answer it.

[ח] מַסְרֵק שֶׁל פִּשְׁתָּן שֶׁנִּטְּלוּ שִׁנָּיו וְנִשְׁתַּיֵּר בּוֹ שְׁתַּיִם — טָמֵא, וְאַחַת — טָהוֹר. וְכֻלָּן אַחַת אַחַת בִּפְנֵי עַצְמָן — טְמֵאוֹת.
וְשֶׁל צֶמֶר שֶׁנִּטְּלוּ שִׁנָּיו אַחַת מִבֵּינְתַיִם — טָהוֹר. נִשְׁתַּיֵּר בּוֹ שָׁלֹשׁ בְּמָקוֹם אֶחָד — טָמֵא. הָיְתָה הַחִיצוֹנָה אַחַת מֵהֶן — טָהוֹר.
נִטְּלוּ מִמֶּנוּ שְׁתַּיִם וַעֲשָׂאָן לְמַלְקֶטֶת — טְמֵאוֹת. אַחַת וְהִתְקִינָהּ לְנֵר אוֹ לְמִתּוּחַ — טְמֵאָה.
A comb for flax whose teeth were removed, but two remained in it, is tamei. But [if] one [remained], it is tahor. And all of [the teeth] by themselves are tamei.
And [a comb] for wool whose teeth were removed one from every two is tahor. [If] there remain three [teeth] in one place, it is tamei. [If] the outermost tooth was one of them, it is tahor.
[If] two teeth were removed from [the comb] and one made them into tweezers, they are tamei. [If] one [tooth was removed] and one prepared it for [use with] a lamp or for stretching, it is tamei.
Keilim14: 1
[א] כְּלֵי מַתָּכוֹת כַּמָּה הוּא שִׁעוּרָן? הַדְּלִי — כְּדֵי לְמַלֹּאות בּוֹ. קֻמְקוּם — כְּדֵי לְיַחֵם בּוֹ. מֵיחַם — כְּדֵי לְקַבֵּל סְלָעִים. הַלֶּפֶס — כְּדֵי לְקַבֵּל קִיתוֹנוֹת. קִיתוֹנוֹת — כְּדֵי לְקַבֵּל פְּרוּטוֹת. מִדּוֹת יַיִן — בְּיַיִן, וּמִדּוֹת שֶׁמֶן — בְּשָׁמֶן. רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר אוֹמֵר: כֻּלָּן בִּפְרוּטוֹת.
רַבִּי עֲקִיבָא אוֹמֵר: הַמְחֻסָּר חֲטִיפָה — טָמֵא, וְהַמְחֻסָּר לְטִישָׁה — טָהוֹר.
What is the measure for [damaged] metal utensils? A bucket, sufficient to draw [water] with it. A kettle, sufficient to heat water with it. A boiler, sufficient to hold selas. A stewpot, sufficient to hold ladles. Ladles, sufficient to hold perutos. Wine measures [are calculated] with wine. And oil measures [are calculated] with oil. R’ Eliezer says: All of them [are calculated] with perutos.
R’ Akiva says: A [utensil] that lacks a cover is tamei. But [a utensil] lacking hammering is tahor.
Keilim14: 2
[ב] מַקֵּל שֶׁעָשָׂה בְרֹאשׁוֹ מַסְמֵר כְּמִין חַזְיָנָא — טָמֵא. סִמְּרוֹ — טָמֵא. רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן אוֹמֵר: עַד שֶׁיַּעֲשֶׂה בוֹ שְׁלשָׁה סְדָרִים. וְכֻלָּן שֶׁעֲשָׂאָן לְנוֹי — טְהוֹרִין.
עָשָׂה בְרֹאשׁוֹ מֵנֶקֶת, וְכֵן בַּדֶּלֶת — טְהוֹרָה.
הָיְתָה כֶלִי וְחִבְּרָהּ לוֹ — טְמֵאָה.
מֵאֵימָתַי הִיא טָהֳרָתָהּ? בֵּית שַׁמַּאי אוֹמְרִים: מִשֶּׁיְּחַבֵּל. בֵּית הִלֵּל אוֹמְרִים: מִשֶּׁיְּחַבֵּר.
A staff to whose head one attached a nail [shaped] like an apple is tamei. [If] one studded it, it is tamei. R’ Shimon says: Only when one makes three rows [of nails] in it. But all of [the components], when they are made for ornamentation, are tahor.
[If] one attached a tube to the head [of the staff], and the same applies to a door, it is tahor.
[If the tube] was a utensil and one attached it to [the staff or the door], it is tamei.
When does it achieve its taharah? Beis Shammai say: When one destroys [it]. Beis Hillel say: When one attaches [it].
Keilim14: 3
[ג] הַקַּנְטָר שֶׁל בַּנַּאי, וְהַדָּקוֹר שֶׁל חָרָשׁ — הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ טְמֵאִין.
יִתְדוֹת אֹהָלִים, וְיִתְדוֹת הַמָּשׁוֹחוֹת — טְמֵאוֹת.
שַׁלְשֶׁלֶת שֶׁל מָשׁוֹחוֹת — טְמֵאָה. הָעֲשׂוּיָה לָעֵצִים — טְהוֹרָה. שַׁלְשֶׁלֶת דְּלִי גָדוֹל — אַרְבָּעָה טְפָחִים. וְשֶׁל קָטָן — עֲשָׂרָה.
חֲמוֹר שֶׁל נַפָּחִין — טָמֵא.
מְגֵרָה שֶׁעָשָׂה שִׁנֶּיהָ בְתוֹךְ הַחוֹר — טְמֵאָה. עֲשָׂאָהּ מִלְּמַטָּן לְמַעְלָן — טְהוֹרָה.
וְכָל הַכִּסּוּיִין — טְהוֹרִים, חוּץ מִשֶּׁל מֵיחַם.
A builder’s crowbar and a carpenter’s pick are tamei.
Tent pegs and surveyors’ pegs are tamei.
A chain of surveyors is tamei. [But a chain] used for wood is tahor. A chain of a large bucket [is tamei up to] four handbreadths, and [a chain] of a small one [is tamei up to] ten [handbreadths.]
A stand of blacksmiths is tamei.
A saw whose teeth one set into the [door] space is tamei. [But if] one turned it upside down, it is tahor.
All covers are tahor except that of a boiler.
Keilim14: 4
[ד] הַטְּמֵאִין שֶׁבָּעֲגָלָה: הָעֹל שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת, וְהַקַּטְרָב, וְהַכְּנָפַיִם הַמְקַבְּלוֹת אֶת הָרְצוּעוֹת, וְהַבַּרְזֶל שֶׁתַּחַת צַוְּארֵי בְהֵמָה, הַסּוֹמֵךְ, וְהַמַּחְגֵּר, וְהַתַּמְחוּיוֹת, הָעִנְבָּל, וְהַצִּנּוֹרָה, וּמַסְמֵר הַמְחַבֵּר אֶת כֻּלָּן.
The tamei [parts] of a wagon [are as follows]: The metal yoke, the crossbar, the tips that [are designed] to accept the straps, the iron under the neck of the animal, the pulling ring, the harness, the plates, the clapper, the hook, and a nail that connects parts together.
Suggestions
