[ז] קֶרֶן, עֲגֻלָּה — טְמֵאָה, וּפְשׁוּטָה — טְהוֹרָה. אִם הָיְתָה מְצֻפִּית שֶׁלָּהּ שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת — טְמֵאָה. הַקַּב שֶׁלָּהּ — רַבִּי טַרְפוֹן מְטַמֵּא, וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין. וּבִשְׁעַת חִבּוּרָן — הַכֹּל טָמֵא. כַּיּוֹצֵא בוֹ, קְנֵי מְנוֹרָה — טְהוֹרִין. הַפֶּרַח וְהַבָּסִיס — טְמֵאִים. וּבִשְׁעַת חִבּוּרָן — הַכֹּל טָמֵא.
A horn that is curved is tamei. But a straight [horn] is tahor. If its mouthpiece was of metal, it is tamei. [Regarding] its bell, R’ Tarfon rules it tamei, but the Sages rule it tahor. And when they are joined together, everything is tamei. Similarly, the branches of a candelabra are tahor. But the perach and the base [of the candelabra] are tamei. And when they are joined together, everything is tamei.

[ח] קַסְדָּא — טְמֵאָה, וּלְחָיַיִם — טְהוֹרִים. אִם יֵשׁ בָּהֶן בֵּית קִבּוּל מַיִם — טְמֵאִים. כָּל כְּלֵי הַמִּלְחָמָה — טְמֵאִים: הַכִּידוֹן, הַנִּקּוֹן, וְהַמַּגָּפַיִן, וְהַשִּׁרְיוֹן — טְמֵאִין. כָּל תַּכְשִׁיטֵי נָשִׁים — טְמֵאִים: עִיר שֶׁל זָהָב, קַטְלָיוֹת, נְזָמִים, וְטַבָּעוֹת, וְטַבַּעַת — בֵּין שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָהּ חוֹתָם וּבֵין שֶׁאֵין לָהּ חוֹתָם, נִזְמֵי הָאַף. קַטְלָא שֶׁחֻלְיוֹת שֶׁלָהּ שֶׁל מַתָּכוֹת בְּחוּט שֶׁל פִּשְׁתָּן אוֹ שֶׁל צֶמֶר, נִפְסַק הַחוּט — הַחֻלְיוֹת טְמֵאוֹת, שֶׁכָּל אַחַת כְּלִי בִּפְנֵי עַצְמָהּ. חוּט שֶׁל מַתָּכוֹת, וְחֻלְיוֹת שֶׁל אֲבָנִים טוֹבוֹת וּמַרְגָלִיּוֹת, וְשֶׁל זְכוּכִית, נִשְׁתַּבְּרוּ חֻלְיוֹת, וְהַחוּט בִּפְנֵי עַצְמוֹ קַיָם — טָמֵא. שְׁיָרֵי קַטְלָא — כִּמְלֹא צַוַּאר קְטַנָּה. רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר אוֹמֵר: אֲפִילּוּ טַבַּעַת אַחַת — טְמֵאָה, שֶׁכֵּן תּוֹלִין בַּצַּוָּאר.
A helmet is tamei. But cheek-guards are tahor. If the [cheek-guards] have a receptacle for water, they are tamei. All implements of war are tamei. A kidon, a spearhead, greaves, and a coat of mail are tamei. All women’s jewelry is tamei. A city of gold, chokers, earrings, and finger rings; a finger ring, whether it has a signet or it does not have a signet, [and] nose rings. [Regarding] a choker whose beads are of metal [and strung] on a linen or woolen thread, [even if] the thread snapped, the beads are tamei, since each one by itself is a utensil. [Regarding] a metal thread [that was strung] with beads of precious stones, pearls, or glass, if the beads broke and the thread alone remains intact, [the thread] is tamei. The remnant of a choker [is] the width of neck size of a young girl. R’ Eliezer says: [If] even one bead [remains], it is tamei, since [people] hang [it] around the neck.

[ט] נֶזֶם שֶׁהוּא עָשׂוּי כִּקְדֵרָה מִלְּמַטָּן וְכַעֲדָשָׁה מִלְמַעְלָן, וְנִפְרַק, כִּקְדֵרָה — טָמֵא מִשּׁוּם כְּלִי בֵית קִבּוּל, וְכַעֲדָשָׁה — טָמֵא בִּפְנֵי עַצְמוֹ. צִנּוֹרָא — טְהוֹרָה. הֶעָשׂוּי כְּמִין אֶשְׁכֹּל, וְנִפְרַק — טָהוֹר.
[Regarding] an earring that is shaped like a pot at its lower end and like a lentil at its top, and [it] came apart, [the section] resembling a pot is tamei because [it is a] utensil with a receptacle, and the lentil-shaped [section] is tamei by itself. [However,] the hook is tahor. [An earring] that was made like a cluster [of grapes], and it came apart, is tahor.

[א] טַבַּעַת אָדָם — טְמֵאָה. טַבַּעַת בְּהֵמָה וְכֵלִים וּשְׁאָר כָּל הַטַבָּעוֹת — טְהוֹרוֹת. קוֹרַת הַחִצִּים — טְמֵאָה, וְשֶׁל אֲסִירִים — טְהוֹרָה. קוֹלָר — טָמֵא. שַׁלְשֶׁלֶת שֶׁיֵשׁ בָּהּ בֵּית נְעִילָה — טְמֵאָה. הָעֲשׂוּיָה לִכְפִיתָה — טְהוֹרָה. שַׁלְשֶׁלֶת שֶׁל סִיטוֹנוֹת — טְמֵאָה, וְשֶׁל בַּעֲלֵי בָתִּים — טְהוֹרָה. אָמַר רַבִּי יוֹסֵי: אֵימָתַי? בִּזְמַן שֶׁהוּא מַפְתֵּחַ אֶחָד, אֲבָל אִם הָיוּ שְׁנַיִם, אוֹ שֶׁקָּשַׁר חִלָּזוֹן בְּרֹאשָׁהּ — טְמֵאָה.
A ring of a person is tamei. [But] the ring of an animal or of utensils and all other [types of] rings [are] tahor. A beam for arrows is tamei. But [a beam] for prisoners is tahor. A collar is tamei. A chain that has a locking device is tamei. [But] one made for tying is tahor. The chain of merchants is tamei [but a chain] of householders is tahor. R’ Yose said: When is this so? When it consists of [only] one link, but if it consists of two [links], or a chilazon was attached to its end, it is tamei.

[ב] קְנֵה מֹאזְנַיִם שֶׁל סָרוֹקוֹת — טָמֵא, מִפְּנֵי אוּנְקְלָיוֹת; וְשֶׁל בַּעֲלֵי בָתִּים, אִם יֶשׁ בּוֹ אֻנְקְלָיוֹת — טָמֵא. אֻנְקְלִין שֶׁל כַּתָּפִים — טְהוֹרָה, וְשֶׁל רוֹכְלִים — טְמֵאָה. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: שֶׁל רוֹכְלִים, שֶׁלְּפָנָיו — טְמֵאָה, וְשֶׁלְּאַחֲרָיו — טְהוֹרָה. אֻנְקְלִי דַרְגָּשׁ — טְמֵאָה, וְשֶׁל נַקְלִיטִין — טְהוֹרָה. שֶׁל שִׁדָּה — טְמֵאָה, וְשֶׁל אַקּוֹן — טְהוֹרָה. שֶׁל שֻׁלְחָן — טְמֵאָה. שֶׁל מְנוֹרַת הָעֵץ — טְהוֹרָה. זֶה הַכְּלָל: כָּל הַמְחֻבָּר לַטָּמֵא — טָמֵא, וְהַמְחֻבָּר לַטָּהוֹר — טָהוֹר. וְכֻלָּן אַחַת אַחַת בִּפְנֵי עַצְמָן — טְהוֹרוֹת.
The beam of a comber’s balance scale is tamei, on account of [its] hooks. And [the beam of the balance scale] of householders, if it has hooks, it is tamei. Hooks [on the poles] of porters are tahor. But hooks [on the poles] of peddlers are tamei. R’ Yehudah says: [With regard to the hooks] of peddlers, that which is in front of him is tamei, but that which is behind him is tahor. The hooks of a dargash are tamei. But [the hooks] of bed poles are tahor. [The hook] of a chest is tamei. But [the hook] of a fish trap is tahor. [The hook] of a table is tamei. [But the hook] of a wooden candelabra is tahor. This is the general rule: Anything attached to that which is tamei is [itself] tamei. And anything attached to that which is tahor is [itself] tahor. [And regarding] all of these [hooks], each one on its own is tahor.

ג] כִּיסּוּי טֶנִי שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת שֶׁל בַּעֲלֵי בָתִּים — רַבָּן גַּמְלִיאֵל מְטַמֵּא, וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין; וְשֶׁל רוֹפְאִים — טָמֵא. הַדֶּלֶת שֶׁבַּמִּגְדָּל שֶׁל בַּעֲלֵי בָתִּים — טְהוֹרָה, וְשֶׁל רוֹפְאִים — טְמֵאָה. הַיִתּוּכִין — טְמֵאִים, וְהַפְּרָכִין — טְהוֹרִין. עַקְרַב בֵּית הַבַּד — טְמֵאָה, וְאֻנְקְלִי שַׁבַּכְּתָלִים — טְהוֹרָה.
[Regarding] the metal cover of a teni belonging to householders, Rabban Gamliel rules it tamei, but the Sages rule it tahor. But [the metal cover of a teni] that belongs to physicians is tamei. The door of a cabinet that belongs to householders is tahor. But [the door of a cabinet] that belongs to physicians is tamei. Tongs are tamei. But perachin are tahor. The akrav of an olive press is tamei. But a hook in a wall is tahor.

[ד] מַסְמֵר הַגָּרָע — טָמֵא, וְשֶׁל אֶבֶן הַשָּׁעוֹת — טָהוֹר; רַבִּי צָדוֹק מְטַמֵּא. מַסְמֵר הַגַּרְדִּי — טָמֵא; וְאָרוֹן שֶׁל גָּרוֹסוֹת — רַבִּי צָדוֹק מְטַמֵּא, וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין. הָיְתָה עֲגָלָה שֶׁלּוֹ שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת — טְמֵאָה.
A blacksmith’s bar is tamei. And the [pin] of a sundial is tahor. [But] R’ Tzadok rules it tamei. A weaver’s rod is tamei. And [regarding] the chest of bean grinders, R’ Tzadok rules it tamei, but the Sages rule it tahor. If its wagon was [made] of metal, it is tamei.

[ה] מַסְמֵר שֶׁהִתְקִינוֹ לִהְיוֹת פּוֹתֵחַ וְנוֹעֵל בּוֹ — טָמֵא. הֶעָשׁוּי לִשְׁמִירָה — טָהוֹר. מַסְמֵר שֶׁהִתְקִינוֹ לִהְיוֹת פּוֹתֵחַ בּוֹ אֶת הֶחָבִית — רַבִּי עֲקִיבָא מְטַמֵּא, וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין עַד שֶׁיְּצָרְפֶנוּ. מַסְמֵר שֶׁל שֻׁלְחָנִי — טָהוֹר, וְרַבִּי צָדוֹק מְטַמֵּא. שְׁלֹשָׁה דְבָרִים רַבִּי צָדוֹק מְטַמֵּא, וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין: מַסְמֵר שֶׁל שֻׁלְחָנִי, וְאָרוֹן שֶׁל גָּרוֹסוֹת, וּמַסְמֵר שֶׁל אֶבֶן הַשָּׁעוֹת — רַבִּי צָדוֹק מְטַמֵּא, וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין.
A nail that one prepared in order to unlock and lock with it is tamei. [One] that is made for surveillance is tahor. A nail that one prepared in order to open a barrel with it, R’ Akiva rules it tamei, and the Sages rule it tahor until one hardens it. The bar of a moneychanger is tahor. But R’ Tzadok rules it tamei. [There are] three things that R’ Tzadok rules tamei and the Sages rule tahor: The bar of a moneychanger, and the chest of bean grinders, and the [pin] of a sundial, R’ Tzadok rules [them] tamei and the Sages rule [them] tahor.

[ו] אַרְבָּעָה דְבָרִים רַבָּן גַּמְלִיאֵל מְטַמֵּא וַחֲכָמִים מְטַהֲרִין: כִּיסוּי טֶנִי שֶׁל מַתֶּכֶת שֶׁל בַּעֲלֵי בָּתִּים, וּתְלוּי הַמַּגְרֵדוֹת, וְגָלְמֵי כְלֵי מַתָּכוֹת, וְטַבְלָה שֶׁנֶּחְלְקָה לִשְׁנַיִם. וּמוֹדִים חֲכָמִים לְרַבָּן גַּמְלִיאֵל בְּטַבְלָה שֶׁנֶּחְלְקָה לִשְׁנַיִם, אֶחָד גָּדוֹל וְאֶחָד קָטָן, שֶׁהַגָּדוֹל טָמֵא וְהַקָּטָן טָהוֹר.
[There are] four things [that] Rabban Gamliel rules tamei and the Sages rule tahor: The metal cover of a teni belonging to householders, and the hanger of strigils, and unfinished metal utensils, and a tray that split into two. But the Sages agree with Rabban Gamliel in [the case of] a tray that split into two [pieces], one large and the other small, that the large one is tamei and the small one is tahor.

[ז] דִּינָר שֶׁנִּפְסַל, וְהִתְקִינוֹ לִתְלוֹתוֹ בְּצַוַּאר קְטַנָּה — טָמֵא. וְכֵן סֶלַע שֶׁנִּפְסְלָה, וְהִתְקִינָהּ לִהְיוֹת שׁוֹקֵל בָּהּ — טְמֵאָה. עַד כַּמָּה תִּפָּסֵל וִיהֵא רַשַּׁאי לְקַיְּימָהּ? עַד שְׁנֵי דִינָרִין; פָּחוּת מִכָּאן — יָקוֹץ.
A dinar that became disqualified and one prepared it in order to hang it around a girl’s neck, is tamei. And likewise, a sela that became disqualified, and one prepared it in order to weigh with it, is tamei. To what degree may [a sela] become disqualified and it will [still] be permitted to keep it? Up to two dinars. Less than that, he must cut up [the coin].

[ח] הָאוֹלָר, וְהַקֻּלְמוֹס, וְהַמְּטֻטֶּלֶת, וְהַמִּשְׁקָלוֹת, וְהַכּוּרִים, וְהַכַּן, וְהַכַּנָּא — טְמֵאִים. וְכָל גָּלְמֵי כְלֵי עֵץ — טְמֵאִים, חוּץ מִשֶּׁל אֶשְׁכְּרוֹעַ. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: [אַף] גְּרוֹפִית שֶׁל זַיִת טְהוֹרָה, עַד שֶׁתִּשָּׁלֵק.
An olar, and a pen, and a plummet, and weights, and kurim, and a ruler, and a writing tablet are tamei. And all unfinished wooden utensils are tamei, except for those [made] from eshkeroa. R’ Yehudah says: [A utensil made of] an olive branch is tahor, until its sap is removed.
