Moed Katan1: 5
רַבִּי מֵאִיר אוֹמֵר: רוֹאִין אֶת הַנְּגָעִים בַּתְּחִלָּה לְהָקֵל, אֲבָל לֹא לְהַחְמִיר;  וַחֲכָמִים אוֹמְרִים: לֹא לְהָקֵל וְלֹא לְהַחְמִיר.  וְעוֹד אָמַר רַבִּי מֵאִיר: מְלַקֵּט אָדָם עַצְמוֹת אָבִיו וְאִמּוֹ, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁשִּׂמְחָה הִיא לוֹ;  רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹמֵר: אֵבֶל הוּא לוֹ.  לֹא יְעוֹרֵר אָדָם עַל מֵתוֹ וְלֹא יַסְפִּידֶנּוּ קֹדֶם לָרֶגֶל שְׁלֹשִׁים יוֹם.
R' Meir says: We may examine negaim for the first time in order to render a lenient verdict, but not to render a stringent one.  The Sages say: [We may] not [examine a nega whether] for a lenient or for a stringent verdict.  R' Meir also said: A person may gather his father's and mother's bones [for burial], as it is a [source of] joy for him.  R' Yose says: It is [a source of] mourning for him.  A person may not inspire [lamentations] for his dead [relative], nor eulogize him during the thirty days preceding a festival.
Moed Katan1: 6
אֵין חוֹפְרִין כּוּכִין וּקְבָרוֹת בַּמּוֹעֵד, אֲבָל מְחַנְּכִים אֶת הַכּוּכִין בַּמּוֹעֵד. וְעוֹשִׂין נִבְרֶכֶת בַּמּוֹעֵד, וְאָרוֹן עִם הַמֵּת בֶּחָצֵר;  רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹסֵר, אֶלָּא אִם כֵּן יֵשׁ עִמּוֹ נְסָרִים.
We may not hew burial niches nor [build] tombs during [Chol] HaMoed; but we may adapt burial niches during [Chol] HaMoed; dig wash ponds during [Chol] HaMoed; and [construct] a coffin in the courtyard with the deceased.  R' Yehudah prohibits [the latter], unless the boards are at hand.
Moed Katan1: 7
אֵין נוֹשְׂאִין נָשִׁים בַּמּוֹעֵד — לֹא בְּתוּלוֹת וְלֹא אַלְמָנוֹת, וְלֹא מְיַבְּמִין, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁשִּׂמְחָה הִיא לוֹ, אֲבָל מַחֲזִיר הוּא אֶת גְּרוּשָׁתוֹ.  וְעוֹשָׂה אִשָּׁה תַּכְשִׁיטֶיהָ בַּמּוֹעֵד;  רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: לֹא תָסוּד, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁנִּוּוּל הוּא לָהּ.
We may not take wives during [Chol] HaMoed, neither virgins nor widows, nor may levirate marriage be entered into, because it is a [source of] joy for the one who does. However, one may remarry his divorcee.  A woman may make her adornments during [Chol] HaMoed.  R' Yehudah says: She may not apply lime, because it is a disfigurement to her.
Moed Katan1: 8
הַהֶדְיוֹט תּוֹפֵר כְּדַרְכּוֹ, וְהָאֻמָּן מַכְלִיב. וּמְסָרְגִין אֶת הַמִּטּוֹת; רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹמֵר: אַף מְמַתְּחִין.
An unskilled person may sew in his usual manner, but an artisan may sew only with irregular stitches.  We may interlace [supports for] beds.  R' Yose says: We may even tighten them.
Moed Katan1: 9
מַעֲמִידִין תַּנּוּר וְכִירַיִם וְרֵחַיִם בַּמּוֹעֵד.  רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: אֵין מְכַבְּשִׁין אֶת הָרֵחַיִם בַּתְּחִלָּה.
We may set up an oven, a stove, or millstones during [Chol] HaMoed.  R' Yehudah says: We may not roughen the millstones initially.
Moed Katan1: 10
עוֹשִׂין מַעֲקֶה לַגַּג וְלַמִּרְפֶּסֶת מַעֲשֵׂה הֶדְיוֹט, אֲבָל לֹא מַעֲשֵׂה אֻמָּן. שָׁפִין אֶת הַסְּדָקִין וּמַעְגִּילִין אוֹתָן בַּמַּעְגִּילָה בַּיָּד וּבָרֶגֶל, אֲבָל לֹא בַּמַּחְלְצַיִם.  הַצִּיר וְהַצִּנּוֹר וְהַקּוֹרָה וְהַמַּנְעוּל וְהַמַּפְתֵּחַ שֶׁנִּשְׁבְּרוּ — מְתַקְּנָן בַּמּוֹעֵד, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁלֹּא יְכַוֵּן מְלַאכְתּוֹ בַמּוֹעֵד.  וְכָל כְּבָשִׁין שֶׁהוּא יָכוֹל לֶאֱכֹל מֵהֶן בַּמּוֹעֵד — כּוֹבְשָׁן.
We may build a railing for a roof or for a balcony in an unskilled manner, but not in a professional manner. We may replaster the cracks and roll them [as if] with a roller, with the hand and the foot, but not with a trowel.  A hinge, or a socket, or a beam, or a lock, or a key that broke may be repaired during [Chol] HaMoed, provided that one does not plan his work for [Chol] HaMoed.  All pickled foods that can be eaten during the festival may be pickled [during Chol HaMoed].
Moed Katan2: 1
מִי שֶׁהָפַךְ אֶת זֵיתָיו וְאֵרְעוֹ אֵבֶל אוֹ אֹנֶס, אוֹ שֶׁהִטְעוּהוּ פוֹעֲלִים — טוֹעֵן קוֹרָה רִאשׁוֹנָה וּמַנִּיחָהּ לְאַחַר הַמּוֹעֵד; דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי יְהוּדָה.  רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹמֵר: זוֹלֵף וְגוֹמֵר וְגָף כְּדַרְכּוֹ.
One who turned over his olives [to soften them] and then mourning befell him, or an accident [befell him], or [his] workers misled him, may place the first beam and leave it until after the festival. This is the opinion of R' Yehudah.  R' Yose says: He may pour [the olives into the press], complete [the process], and seal [the barrels] in his usual manner.
Moed Katan2: 2
וְכֵן מִי שֶׁהָיָה יֵינוֹ בְּתוֹך הַבּוֹר וְאֵרְעוֹ אֵבֶל אוֹ אֹנֶס, אוֹ שֶׁהִטְעוּהוּ פוֹעֲלִים — זוֹלֵף וְגוֹמֵר וְגָף כְּדַרְכּוֹ; דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי יוֹסֵי.  רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: עוֹשֶׂה לוֹ לִמּוּדִים בִּשְׁבִיל שֶׁלֹּא יַחֲמִיץ.
Similarly, one whose wine was in the vat and then mourning befell him, or an accident [befell him], or [his] workers misled him, may pour [the wine into barrels], complete [its processing], and seal [the barrels] in his usual manner. This is the opinion of R' Yose.  R' Yehudah says: He may cover [the barrels] with boards so that [the wine] does not sour.
Moed Katan2: 3
מַכְנִיס אָדָם פֵּרוֹתָיו מִפְּנֵי הַגַּנָּבִים, וְשׁוֹלֶה פִשְׁתָּנוֹ מִן הַמִּשְׁרָה בִּשְׁבִיל שֶׁלֹּא תֹאבַד, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁלֹּא יְכַוֵּן אֶת מְלַאכְתּוֹ בַמּוֹעֵד. וְכֻלָּן אִם כִּוְּנוּ מְלַאכְתָּן בַּמּוֹעֵד — יֹאבֵדוּ.
A person may bring in his fruit because of thieves, and remove his flax from the soaking pond so that it does not become ruined, provided he does not plan his work for [Chol] HaMoed. In all these cases, if they planned their work for [Chol] HaMoed, it shall be forfeited.
Moed Katan2: 4
אֵין לוֹקְחִין בָּתִּים, עֲבָדִים וּבְהֵמָה, אֶלָּא לְצֹרֶךְ הַמּוֹעֵד, אוֹ לְצֹרֶךְ הַמּוֹכֵר שֶׁאֵין לוֹ מַה יֹּאכַל.  אֵין מְפַנִּין מִבַּיִת לְבַיִת, אֲבָל מְפַנֶּה הוּא לַחֲצֵרוֹ.  אֵין מְבִיאִין כֵּלִים מִבֵּית הָאֻמָּן; וְאִם חוֹשֵׁשׁ לָהֶם — מְפַנָּן לְחָצֵר אַחֶרֶת.
We may not purchase homes, nor slaves, nor domestic animals, except for use during the festival, or [to provide] for the needs of the seller who [otherwise] has nothing to eat.  We may not move [objects] from one house to another, but one may move [objects from one house to another] within his courtyard.  We may not bring vessels from the artisan's shop; but if one fears for them, he may move them into a different courtyard.
Moed Katan2: 5
מְחַפִּין אֶת הַקְּצִיעוֹת בְּקַשׁ; רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: אַף מְעַבִּין. מוֹכְרֵי פֵרוֹת, כְּסוּת וְכֵלִים — מוֹכְרִים בְּצִנְעָה לְצֹרֶךְ הַמּוֹעֵד. הַצַּיָּדִין וְהַדָּשׁוֹשׁוֹת וְהַגָּרוֹסוֹת — עוֹשִׂין בְּצִנְעָה לְצֹרֶךְ הַמּוֹעֵד.  רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹמֵר: הֵם הֶחְמִירוּ עַל עַצְמָן.
We may cover drying figs with straw.  R' Yehudah says: We may even stack them. Vendors of fruit, clothing, and utensils may sell [their wares] in private, for use during the festival. Trappers, cereal makers, and bean pounders may ply their trade in private for festival needs.  R' Yose says: They imposed a stringency upon themselves.
Moed Katan3: 1
וְאֵלּוּ מְגַלְּחִין בַּמּוֹעֵד: הַבָּא מִמְּדִינַת הַיָּם, וּמִבֵּית הַשִּׁבְיָה, וְהַיּוֹצֵא מִבֵּית הָאֲסוּרִין, וְהַמְנֻדֶּה שֶׁהִתִּירוּ לוֹ חֲכָמִים, וְכֵן מִי שֶׁנִּשְׁאַל לְחָכָם וְהֻתַּר, וְהַנָּזִיר, וְהַמְּצֹרָע הָעוֹלֶה מִטֻּמְאָתוֹ לְטָהֳרָתוֹ.
These [people] may cut their hair during [Chol] HaMoed: One who arrived from abroad; [was released] from captivity; left prison; or the excommunicate whose ban was lifted by the sages. Similarly, one who applied to a sage and had been released [from his vow]; the nazir or the metzora who returns from [a state of] contamination to [a state of] purity.
Moed Katan3: 2
וְאֵלּוּ מְכַבְּסִין בַּמּוֹעֵד: הַבָּא מִמְּדִינַת הַיָּם, וּמִבֵּית הַשִּׁבְיָה, וְהַיּוֹצֵא מִבֵּית הָאֲסוּרִים, וְהַמְנֻדֶּה שֶׁהִתִּירוּ לוֹ חֲכָמִים, וְכֵן מִי שֶׁנִּשְׁאַל לְחָכָם וְהֻתַּר;  מִטְפְּחוֹת הַיָּדַיִם וּמִטְפְּחוֹת הַסַּפָּרִים וּמִטְפְּחוֹת הַסְּפָג;  הַזָּבִין וְהַזָּבוֹת וְהַנִּדּוֹת וְהַיּוֹלְדוֹת, וְכָל הָעוֹלִין מִטֻּמְאָה לְטָהֳרָה — הֲרֵי אֵלּוּ מֻתָּרִין, וּשְׁאָר כָּל אָדָם — אֲסוּרִין.

Moed Katan3: 3
וְאֵלּוּ כּוֹתְבִין בַּמּוֹעֵד: קִדּוּשֵׁי נָשִׁים, גִּטִּין וְשׁוֹבָרִין, דְּיַתִּיקִי, מַתָּנָה, וּפְרוֹזְבּוּלִין, אִגְּרוֹת שׁוּם וְאִגְּרוֹת מָזוֹן, שְׁטָרֵי חֲלִיצָה וּמֵאוּנִים, וּשְׁטָרֵי בֵרוּרִין, וּגְזֵרוֹת בֵּית דִּין, וְאִגְּרוֹת שֶׁל רָשׁוּת.
And these [documents] may be written during [Chol] HaMoed: Instruments of betrothal, divorces, receipts, testaments, gifts, prozbulin, evaluation documents, support documents, chalitzah certificates, refusals, selection contracts, court edicts, and government documents.
Moed Katan3: 4
אֵין כּוֹתְבִין שְׁטָרֵי חוֹב בַּמּוֹעֵד. וְאִם אֵינוֹ מַאֲמִינוֹ, אוֹ שֶׁאֵין לוֹ מַה יֹּאכַל — הֲרֵי זֶה יִכְתֹּב.  אֵין כּוֹתְבִין סְפָרִים, תְּפִלִּין וּמְזוּזוֹת בַּמּוֹעֵד, וְאֵין מַגִּיהִין אוֹת אַחַת, אֲפִלּוּ בְסֵפֶר (עֶזְרָא) [הָעֲזָרָה]. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: כּוֹתֵב אָדָם תְּפִלִּין וּמְזוּזוֹת לְעַצְמוֹ, וְטֹוֶה עַל יְרֵכוֹ תְּכֵלֶת לְצִיצִיתוֹ.
We may not write loan contracts during [Chol] HaMoed. However, if he does not trust him, or if he has nothing to eat, then he may write.  We may not write Books [of Scripture], nor tefillin, nor mezuzos during [Chol] HaMoed. We may not correct a single letter even in the [Torah] scroll of the Temple court. R' Yehudah says: A person may write tefillin or mezuzos for his personal use; and he may spin the blue thread for his tzitzis, on his thigh.
Moed Katan3: 5
הַקּוֹבֵר אֶת מֵתוֹ שְׁלֹשָׁה יָמִים קֹדֶם לָרֶגֶל — בָּטְלָה הֵימֶנּוּ גְּזֵרַת שִׁבְעָה. שְׁמוֹנָה — בָּטְלָה הֵימֶנּוּ גְּזֵרַת שְׁלֹשִׁים, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁאָמְרוּ: שַׁבָּת עוֹלָה וְאֵינָהּ מַפְסֶקֶת, רְגָלִים מַפְסִיקִין וְאֵינָן עוֹלִין.
He who buries his dead [relative] three days before a festival has the edict of seven [days of mourning] annulled. [He who buries his dead relative] eight [days before a festival] has the edict of thirty [days of mourning] annulled. [This is so] because they said: Sabbath is included [in the period of mourning] but does not interrupt [it]. Festivals [however] interrupt but are not included.
