Shabbos20: 4
גּוֹרְפִין מִלִּפְנֵי הַפְּטָם, וּמְסַלְּקִין לַצְּדָדִין מִפְּנֵי הָרְעִי — דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי דוֹסָא. וַחֲכָמִים אוֹסְרִין. נוֹטְלִין מִלִּפְנֵי בְהֵמָה זוֹ וְנוֹתְנִין לִפְנֵי בְהֵמָה זוֹ בַשַּׁבָּת.
We may sweep out [the feeding-trough] from before a stall ox, and we may move it to the sides because of the excretum — [these are] the words of R’ Dosa. But the Sages prohibit [it]. We may take [feed] from before one animal and place it before another animal on the Sabbath.
Shabbos20: 5
הַקַּשׁ שֶׁעַל־גַּבֵּי הַמִּטָּה, לֹא יְנַעְנְעוֹ בְיָּדוֹ, אֶלָּא מְנַעְנְעוֹ בְגוּפוֹ; וְאִם הָיָה מַאֲכַל בְּהֵמָה, אוֹ שֶׁהָיָה עָלָיו כַּר אוֹ סָדִין, מְנַעְנְעוֹ בְיָדוֹ. מַכְבֵּשׁ שֶׁל בַּעֲלֵי בָתִּים מַתִּירִין, אֲבָל לֹא כוֹבְשִׁין; וְשֶׁל כּוֹבְסִין, לֹא יִגַּע בּוֹ. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: אִם הָיָה מֻתָּר מֵעֶרֶב שַׁבָּת, מַתִּיר אֶת כֻּלּוֹ וְשׁוֹמְטוֹ.
Straw that is on the bed, one may not move it with his hand, but he may move it with his body; and if it was fodder for animals, or if a pillow or a sheet was over it, he may move it with his hand. A householder’s clothes-press we may undo, but we may not press down. A launderer’s [press, however], one may not touch. R’ Yehudah says: If it was undone from before the Sabbath, one may undo it completely and remove it.
Shabbos21: 1
נוֹטֵל אָדָם אֶת בְּנוֹ וְהָאֶבֶן בְּיָדוֹ, וְכַלְכָּלָה וְהָאֶבֶן בְּתוֹכָהּ. וּמְטַלְטְלִין תְּרוּמָה טְמֵאָה עִם הַטְּהוֹרָה וְעִם הַחֻלִּין. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: אַף מַעֲלִין אֶת הַמְדֻמָּע בְּאֶחָד וּמֵאָה.
A man may pick up his son [although] there is a stone in his hand, or a basket [although] there is a stone in it. [Similarly,] we may move contaminated terumah together with uncontaminated terumah or with ordinary food. R’ Yehudah says: We may also remove one part of terumah from a mixture with a hundred parts of ordinary food.
Shabbos21: 2
הָאֶבֶן שֶׁעַל־פִּי הֶחָבִית, מַטָּהּ עַל צִדָּהּ וְהִיא נוֹפֶלֶת. הָיְתָה בֵין הֶחָבִיּוֹת, מַגְבִּיהָהּ וּמַטָּהּ עַל צִדָּהּ וְהִיא נוֹפֶלֶת. מָעוֹת שֶׁעַל הַכַּר, נוֹעֵר אֶת הַכַּר וְהֵן נוֹפְלוֹת. הָיְתָה עָלָיו לִשְׁלֶשֶׁת, מְקַנְּחָהּ בִּסְמַרְטוּט. הָיְתָה שֶׁל עוֹר, נוֹתְנִין עָלֶיהָ מַיִם עַד שֶׁתִּכְלָה.
A stone which is on the opening of a cask, one may tilt on its side so that it falls off. [If] it was among the [other] casks, one may lift it and [then] tilt it on its side so that it falls off. Money which is on a pillow, one may shake the pillow so that it falls off. [If] there was filth on it, he may wipe it off with a rag. [If] it was [made] of leather, we may pour water on it until it disappears.
Shabbos21: 3
בֵּית שַׁמַּאי אוֹמְרִים: מַגְבִּיהִין מִן הַשֻּׁלְחָן עֲצָמוֹת וּקְלִפִּין. וּבֵית הִלֵּל אוֹמְרִים: נוֹטֵל אֶת הַטַּבְלָה כֻלָּהּ וּמְנַעֲרָהּ. מַעֲבִירִין מִלִּפְנֵי הַשֻּׁלְחָן פֵּרוּרִין פָּחוֹת מִכְּזַיִת, וְשֵׂעָר שֶׁל אֲפוּנִין וְשֵׂעָר שֶׁל עֲדָשִׁים, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהוּא מַאֲכַל בְּהֵמָה. סְפוֹג, אִם יֵשׁ לוֹ עוֹר בֵּית אֲחִיזָה, מְקַנְּחִין בּוֹ; וְאִם לָאו, אֵין מְקַנְּחִין בּוֹ. וַחֲכָמִים אוֹמְרִים: בֵּין כָּךְ וּבֵין כָּךְ, נִטָּל בַּשַּׁבָּת, וְאֵינוֹ מְקַבֵּל טֻמְאָה.
Beis Shammai say: We may pick up bones and husks from the table. But Beis Hillel say: One must pick up the entire table board and shake it. We may remove from the table [even] crumbs less than the size of an olive, as well as the pods of chickpeas and the pods of lentils, because they are animal fodder. A sponge, if it has a leather handle, we may wipe with it; if not, we may not wipe with it. The Sages, however, say: In either case, it may be moved about on the Sabbath, and it is not susceptible to tumah-contamination.
Shabbos22: 1
חָבִית שֶׁנִּשְׁבְּרָה, מַצִּילִין הֵימֶנָּה מְזוֹן שָׁלֹשׁ סְעוּדוֹת. וְאוֹמֵר לַאֲחֵרִים: ,,בֹּאוּ וְהַצִּילוּ לָכֶם,“ וּבִלְבַד שֶׁלֹּא יִסְפֹּג. אֵין סוֹחֲטִין אֶת הַפֵּרוֹת לְהוֹצִיא מֵהֶן מַשְׁקִין; וְאִם יָצְאוּ מֵעַצְמָן, אֲסוּרִין. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: אִם לָאֳכָלִין, הַיּוֹצֵא מֵהֶן מֻתָּר; וְאִם לְמַשְׁקִין, הַיּוֹצֵא מֵהֶן אָסוּר. חַלּוֹת דְּבַשׁ שֶׁרִסְּקָן מֵעֶרֶב שַׁבָּת, וְיָצְאוּ מֵעַצְמָן, אֲסוּרִים. וְרַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר מַתִּיר.
A cask which has broken, we may save from it [enough] food for three meals. And one may say to others, ’‘Come and save for yourselves,’’ however, he may not soak [it] up with a sponge. We may not press fruits to extract juice from them; and [even] if they flowed out by themselves, they are prohibited. R’ Yehudah says: If [they were intended] for food, [the juice] that flows from them is permitted; but if [they were intended] for juice, what flows from them is prohibited. Honeycombs which one crushed before the Sabbath, and [the honey] then flowed out by itself, are prohibited. R’ Elazar, however, permits [them].
Shabbos22: 2
כָּל שֶׁבָּא בְחַמִּין מֵעֶרֶב שַׁבָּת שׁוֹרִין אוֹתוֹ בְחַמִּין בַּשַּׁבָּת; וְכָל שֶׁלֹּא בָא בְחַמִּין מֵעֶרֶב שַׁבָּת מְדִיחִין אוֹתוֹ בְחַמִּין בַּשַּׁבָּת, חוּץ מִן הַמָּלִיחַ הַיָּשָׁן, וְדָגִים מְלוּחִים קְטַנִּים, וְקוּלְיָס הָאִסְפָּנִין, שֶׁהֲדָחָתָן זוֹ הִיא גְמַר מְלַאכְתָּן.
Anything that was put in hot water before the Sabbath may be soaked in hot water on the Sabbath; but anything that was not put in hot water before the Sabbath may be rinsed in hot water on the Sabbath, except an old salted fish, small salted fish, or a Spanish mackerel, because their rinsing completes their preparation.
Shabbos22: 3
שׁוֹבֵר אָדָם אֶת הֶחָבִית לֶאֱכֹל הֵימֶנָּה גְרוֹגְרוֹת, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁלֹּא יִתְכַּוֵּן לַעֲשׂוֹת כְּלִי. וְאֵין נוֹקְבִים מְגוּפָה שֶׁל חָבִית — דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי יְהוּדָה. וַחֲכָמִים מַתִּירִין. וְלֹא יִקְּבֶנָּה מִצִּדָּהּ. וְאִם הָיְתָה נְקוּבָה, לֹא יִתֵּן עָלֶיהָ שַׁעֲוָה, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהוּא מְמָרֵחַ. אָמַר רַבִּי יְהוּדָה: מַעֲשֶׂה בָא לִפְנֵי רַבָּן יוֹחָנָן בֶּן זַכַּאי בַּעֲרָב, וְאָמַר: ,,חוֹשְׁשַׁנִי לוֹ מֵחַטָּאת.“
A person may break [open] a cask to eat dried figs from it, provided that he does not intend to make a vessel. We may not perforate the bung of a cask — [these are] the words of R’ Yehudah. The Sages, however, permit [it]. [But] one may not perforate it in its side. If it was perforated, one may not place wax upon it, because he smooths [it]. Said R’ Yehudah: An incident came before Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai in Arab, and he said, ‘’I fear on his account that he may be liable for a sin offering.’’
Shabbos22: 4
נוֹתְנִין תַּבְשִׁיל לְתוֹךְ הַבּוֹר בִּשְׁבִיל שֶׁיְּהֵא שָׁמוּר; וְאֶת הַמַּיִם הַיָּפִים בָּרָעִים בִּשְׁבִיל שֶׁיִּצַּנּוּ; וְאֶת הַצּוֹנֵן בַּחַמָּה בִּשְׁבִיל שֶׁיֵּחַמּוּ. מִי שֶׁנָּשְׁרוּ כֵלָיו בַּדֶּרֶךְ בַּמַּיִם מְהַלֵּךְ בָּהֶן וְאֵינוֹ חוֹשֵׁשׁ. הִגִּיעַ לֶחָצֵר הַחִיצוֹנָה, שׁוֹטְחָן בַּחַמָּה, אֲבָל לֹא כְנֶגֶד הָעָם.
We may place a cooked dish in a pit in order that it be preserved; good water in stale water in order that it cool off; and cold water in the sun in order that it become warm. One whose garments fell into the water while traveling may [continue to] walk in them, and he need not fear. When he arrives at the outer courtyard, he may spread them out in the sun, but not in front of the people.
Shabbos22: 5
הָרוֹחֵץ בְּמֵי מְעָרָה וּבְמֵי טְבֶרְיָא וְנִסְתַּפֵּג אֲפִלּוּ בְעֶשֶׂר אֲלֻנְטִיאוֹת לֹא יְבִיאֵם בְּיָדוֹ; אֲבָל עֲשָׂרָה בְנֵי אָדָם מִסְתַּפְּגִין בַּאֲלֻנְטִית אַחַת — פְּנֵיהֶם יְדֵיהֶם וְרַגְלֵיהֶם — וּמְבִיאִין אוֹתָהּ בְּיָדָן.
One who bathes in the water of a cave or in the water of Tiberias and dried himself with even ten towels may not carry them in his hand; but ten people may dry themselves with one towel — their faces, their hands and their feet — and they may carry it in their hands.
Shabbos22: 6
סָכִין וּמְמַשְׁמְשִׁין בִּבְנֵי מֵעַיִם, אֲבָל לֹא מִתְעַמְּלִין וְלֹא מִתְגָּרְדִין. אֵין יוֹרְדִין לְקוֹרְדִּימָה; וְאֵין עוֹשִׂין אַפִּיקְטְוִיזִין; וְאֵין מְעַצְּבִין אֶת הַקָּטָן; וְאֵין מַחֲזִירִין אֶת הַשֶּׁבֶר. מִי שֶׁנִּפְרְקָה יָדוֹ וְרַגְלוֹ, לֹא יִטְרְפֵם בְּצוֹנֵן, אֲבָל רוֹחֵץ הוּא כְּדַרְכּוֹ, וְאִםנִתְרַפֵּא, נִתְרַפֵּא.
We may anoint and massage the stomach, but we may neither knead nor scrape [the skin]. We may not go down to Kordima; nor take an emetic; nor straighten an infant[’s limbs]; nor set a fracture. If one’s hand or foot became dislocated, he may not massage them with cold water, but he may bathe according to his usual manner, and if he is healed, he is healed.
Shabbos23: 1
שׁוֹאֵל אָדָם מֵחֲבֵרוֹ כַּדֵּי יַיִן וְכַדֵּי שֶׁמֶן, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁלֹּא יֹאמַר לוֹ: “הַלְוֵנִי.“ וְכֵן, הָאִשָּׁה מֵחֲבֶרְתָּהּ, כִּכָּרוֹת. וְאִם אֵינוֹ מַאֲמִינוֹ, מַנִּיחַ טַלִּיתוֹ אֶצְלוֹ וְעוֹשֶׂה עִמּוֹ חֶשְׁבּוֹן לְאַחַר שַׁבָּת. וְכֵן, עֶרֶב פֶּסַח בִּירוּשָׁלַיִם שֶׁחָל לִהְיוֹת בַּשַּׁבָּת, מַנִּיחַ טַלִּיתוֹ אֶצְלוֹ, וְנוֹטֵל אֶת פִּסְחוֹ, וְעוֹשֶׂה עִמּוֹ חֶשְׁבּוֹן לְאַחַר יוֹם טוֹב.
A person may borrow pitchers of wine or pitchers of oil from his friend, provided he does not say to him: ’‘Lend me.’’ In the same manner, a woman [may borrow] loaves [of bread] from her friend. If he does not trust him, he may leave his cloak with him and make a reckoning with him after the Sabbath. So too, in Jerusalem, [when] the day before Passover falls out on the Sabbath, he may leave his cloak with him, take his pesach offering, and make a reckoning with him after Yom Tov.
