Shabbos6: 1
בַּמָּה אִשָּׁה יוֹצְאָה, וּבַמָּה אֵינָּהּ יוֹצְאָה? לֹא תֵצֵא אִשָּׁה לֹא בְחוּטֵי צֶמֶר, וְלֹא בְחוּטֵי פִשְׁתָּן, וְלֹא בִרְצוּעוֹת שֶׁבְּרֹאשָׁהּ — וְלֹא תִטְבֹּל בָּהֶן עַד שֶׁתְּרַפֵּם; וְלֹא בְטֹטֶפֶת, וְלֹא בְסַנְבּוּטִין, בִּזְמַן שֶׁאֵינָן תְּפוּרִין; וְלֹא בְכָבוּל לִרְשׁוּת הָרַבִּים; וְלֹא בְעִיר שֶׁל זָהָב; וְלֹא בְקַטְלָא; וְלֹא בִנְזָמִים; וְלֹא בְטַבַּעַת שֶׁאֵין עָלֶיהָ חוֹתָם; וְלֹא בְמַחַט שֶׁאֵינָהּ נְקוּבָה. וְאִם יָצָאת; אֵינָהּ חַיֶּבֶת חַטָּאת.
With what may a woman go out, and with what may she not go out? A woman may not go out neither with woolen threads, nor with linen threads, nor with straps that are on her head — nor may she immerse herself [in a mikveh] with them unless she [first] loosens them; nor [may she go out] with a frontlet, nor with head bangles, when they are not sewn; nor with a forehead pad into a public domain; nor with a golden city; nor with a necklace; nor with nose rings; nor with a ring that bears no signet; nor with a needle without an eye. But if she went out, she is not liable for a sin offering.
Shabbos6: 2
לֹא יֵצֵא הָאִישׁ בַּסַּנְדָּל הַמְסֻמָּר; וְלֹא בְיָחִיד בִּזְמַן שֶׁאֵין בְּרַגְלוֹ מַכָּה; וְלֹא בִתְפִלִּין; וְלֹא בְקָמֵיעַ בִּזְמַן שֶׁאֵינוֹ מִן הַמֻּמְחֶה; וְלֹא בְשִׁרְיוֹן; וְלֹא בְקַסְדָּא; וְלֹא בְמַגָּפַיִם. וְאִם יָצָא, אֵינוֹ חַיָּב חַטָּאת.
A man may not go out with a hobnailed sandal; nor with a single one when there is no wound on his foot; nor with tefillin; nor with an amulet
when it is not from an expert; nor with a coat of mail; nor with a helmet; nor with greaves. But if he went out, he is not liable for a sin offering.
Shabbos6: 3
לֹא תֵצֵא אִשָּׁה בְּמַחַט הַנְּקוּבָה; וְלֹא בְטַבַּעַת שֶׁיֵּשׁ עָלֶיהָ חוֹתָם; וְלֹא בְכֻלְיָאר; וְלֹא בְכוֹבֶלֶת; וְלֹא בִצְלוֹחִית שֶׁל פֻּלְיָטוֹן. וְאִם יָצְתָה, חַיֶּבֶת חַטָּאת — דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי מֵאִיר. וַחֲכָמִים פּוֹטְרִין בְּכוֹבֶלֶת וּבִצְלוֹחִית שֶׁל פֻּלְיָטוֹן.
A woman may not go out with a needle that has an eye; nor with a signet ring; nor with a cochlea-shaped head ring; nor with a spice bundle; nor with a perfume flask. And if she went out, she is liable for a sin offering — [these are] the words of R’ Meir.
But the Sages exempt her in [the case of] a spice bundle or a perfume flask.
Shabbos6: 4
לֹא יֵצֵא הָאִישׁ לֹא בְסַיִף, וְלֹא בְקֶשֶׁת, וְלֹא בִתְרִיס, וְלֹא בְאַלָּה, וְלֹא בְרֹמַח. וְאִם יָצָא, חַיָּב חַטָּאת. רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר אוֹמֵר: תַּכְשִׁיטִין הֵן לוֹ. וַחֲכָמִים אוֹמְרִים: אֵינָן אֶלָּא לִגְנַאי, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר, “וְכִתְּתוּ חַרְבוֹתָם לְאִתִּים וַחֲנִיתוֹתֵיהֶם לְמַזְמֵרוֹת; לֹא־יִשָּׂא גּוֹי אֶל־גּוֹי חֶרֶב וְלֹא־יִלְמְדוּ עוֹד מִלְחָמָה“. בִּירִית טְהוֹרָה, וְיוֹצְאִין בָּהּ בַּשַּׁבָּת; כְּבָלִים טְמֵאִין, וְאין יוֹצְאִין בָּהֶם בַּשַּׁבָּת.
A man may not go out neither with a sword, nor with a bow, nor with a shield, nor with a buckler, nor with a spear. And if he went out, he is liable for a sin offering.
R’ Eliezer says: They are adornments for him. But the Sages say: They are nothing but a disgrace, as it is said, And they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; one nation shall not lift up a sword against another nation, neither shall they learn war anymore (Isaiah 2:4).
A garter is not susceptible to tumah-contamination, and we may go out with it on the Sabbath; ankle chains are susceptible to tumah-contamination, and they may not go out with them on the Sabbath.
Shabbos6: 5
יוֹצְאָה אִשָּׁה בְחוּטֵי שֵׂעָר, בֵּין מִשֶּׁלָּהּ, בֵּין מִשֶּׁל חֲבֶרְתָּהּ, בֵּין מִשֶּׁל בְּהֵמָה; וּבְטֹטֶפֶת, וּבְסַנְבּוּטִין, בִּזְמַן שֶׁהֵן תְּפוּרִין; בְּכָבוּל וּבְפֵאָה נָכְרִית לֶחָצֵר; בְּמוֹךְ שֶׁבְּאָזְנָהּ, וּבְמוֹךְ שֶׁבְּסַנְדָּלָהּ, וּבְמוֹךְ שֶׁהִתְקִינָה לְנִדָּתָהּ; בְּפִלְפֵּל, וּבְגַרְגִּיר מֶלַח, וּבְכָל דָּבָר שֶׁתִּתֵּן לְתוֹךְ פִּיהָ, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁלֹּא תִתֵּן לְכַתְּחִלָּה בַשַּׁבָּת — וְאִם נָפַל, לֹא תַחֲזִיר. שֵׁן תּוֹתֶבֶת וְשֵׁן שֶׁל זָהָב — רַבִּי מַתִּיר, וַחֲכָמִים אוֹסְרִים.
A woman may go out with bands of hair, whether of her own [hair], or of her companion’s [hair], or of an animal’s [hair]; or with a frontlet, or with head bangles, when they are sewn; or with a forehead pad or with a wig into a courtyard;
with wadding in her ear, or with wadding in her sandal, or with wadding she pre-pared for her menses; with a pepper, or with a globule of salt, or with anything that she will put into her mouth, provided that she does not put [it in] initially on the Sabbath — and if it fell [out], she may not put [it] back.
A false tooth or a tooth with a gold crown — Rabbi [Yehudah HaNassi] permits [them], but the Sages prohibit [them].
Shabbos6: 6
יוֹצְאָה בְסֶלַע שֶׁעַל הַצִּינִית. הַבָּנוֹת קְטַנּוֹת יוֹצְאוֹת בְּחוּטִין וַאֲפִלּוּ בְקִיסְמִין שֶׁבְּאָזְנֵיהֶן. עַרְבִיּוֹת יוֹצְאוֹת רְעוּלוֹת, וּמָדִיּוֹת פְּרוּפוֹת. וְכָל אָדָם, אֶלָּא שֶׁדִּבְּרוּ חֲכָמִים בַּהֹוֶה.
She may go out with the sela that is on a wound [on the sole of her foot].
Young girls may go out with the threads or even with the slivers that are in their ears.
Arabian women may go out veiled, and Median women [may go out] with their cloaks fastened over their shoulders. [Indeed] all people [may do so], but the Sages spoke of the actual custom.
Shabbos6: 7
פּוֹרֶפֶת עַל הָאֶבֶן, וְעַל הָאֱגוֹז, וְעַל הַמַּטְבֵּעַ, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁלֹּא תִפְרוֹף לְכַתְּחִלָּה בַשַּׁבָּת.
She may fasten [her cloak] with a stone, or with a nut, or with a coin, provided she does not fasten [it] initially on the Sabbath.
Shabbos6: 8
הַקִּטֵּעַ יוֹצֵא בְקַב שֶׁלּוֹ — דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי מֵאִיר. וְרַבִּי יוֹסֵי אוֹסֵר. וְאִם יֶשׁ לוֹ בֵית קִבּוּל כְּתוּתִים, טָמֵא. סָמוֹכוֹת שֶׁלּוֹ טְמֵאִין מִדְרָס, וְיוֹצְאִין בָּהֶן בַּשַּׁבָּת, וְנִכְנָסִין בָּהֶן בָּעֲזָרָה.
כִּסֵּא וְסָמוֹכוֹת שֶׁלּוֹ טְמֵאִין מִדְרָס, וְאֵין יוֹצְאִין בָּהֶם בַּשַּׁבָּת, וְאֵין נִכְנָסִין בָּהֶן בָּעֲזָרָה.
אַנְקַטְמִין טְהוֹרִין, וְאֵין יוֹצְאִין בָּהֶן.
An amputee may go out with his wooden foot — [these are] the words of R’ Meir. But R’ Yose prohibits [it]. If it has a cavity for pads, it is susceptible to tumah-contamination.
His kneepads are susceptible to midras contamination, and he may go out with them on the Sabbath, or enter the [Temple] Courtyard with them.
His stool and his supports are susceptible to midras contamination, and he may neither go out with them on the Sabbath, nor enter the [Temple] Courtyard with them.
Masks are not susceptible to tumah-contamination, and we may not go out with them [on the Sabbath].
Shabbos6: 9
הַבָּנִים יוֹצְאִין בִּקְשָׁרִים, וּבְנֵי מְלָכִים בְּזוּגִין; וְכָל אָדָם, אֶלָּא שֶׁדִּבְּרוּ חֲכָמִים בַּהֹוֶה.
Boys may go out with laces, and princes [may go out] with bells; and all people [may do so], but the Sages spoke of the actual custom.
Shabbos6: 10
יוֹצְאִין בְּבֵיצַת הַחַרְגּוֹל, וּבְשֵׁן שׁוּעָל, וּבְמַסְמֵר מִן הַצָּלוּב, מִשּׁוּם רְפוּאָה — דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי מֵאִיר. וַחֲכָמִים אוֹמְרִים: אַף בְּחוֹל אָסוּר מִשּׁוּם דַּרְכֵי הָאֱמוֹרִי.
We may go out with a locust’s egg, or with a fox’s tooth, or with a nail from a gallows, for the purpose of healing — [these are] the words of R’ Meir.
But the Sages say: Even on weekdays these are forbidden because of [the prohibition against following in] the ways of the Emorites.
