[If] someone stores turnips or radishes under a grapevine β€” if some of their leaves are exposed, he need not be concerned about kilayim, nor about sheviis, nor about tithes, and they may be taken on the Sabbath. If a patch is six handbreadths by six handbreadths, one may plant within it five varieties, four on the four sides of the patch and one in the middle. [If] it has a border a handbreadth high, one may plant in it thirteen [varieties], three on each border and one in the middle. It is not permitted to plant a head of turnip inside the border, since it fills it up. R’ Yehudah says: Six in the middle.
