Wheat and darnel are not kilayim with one another. Barley and oats, spelt and rye, broad bean and Nile cowpea, grasspea and red grasspea, hyacinth bean and cowpea are not kilayim with one another.

The chatemelon and muskmelon are not kilayim with one another. R’ Yehudah says: [They are] kilayim. Lettuce and wild lettuce, chicory and wild chicory, leek and field leek, coriander and wild coriander, mustard and Egyptian mustard, Egyptian gourd and ash gourd, Egyptian bean and carob bean are not kilayim with one another.

The turnip and the radish, the kohlrabi and the garden cabbage, spinach beets and shrubby oraches are not kilayim with one another. R’ Akiva added: Garlic and chives, onion and shallot, lupine and yellow lupine are not kilayim with one another.

With respect to trees: Pears and gall-nut pears, quinces and hawthorns are not kilayim with one another. Apples and wild-apples, peaches and almonds, jujube and wild jujube — even though they are similar to one another, they are kilayim with one another.

The rounded radish and the elongated radish, mustard and field mustard, Greek gourd with the Egyptian [gourd], or the ash [gourd] — even though they are similar to one another, they are kilayim with one another.

The wolf and dog, village dog and fox, goats and gazelles, ibex and ewes, horse and mule, mule and donkey, donkey and wild ass — even though they are similar to one another, they are kilayim with one another.

One may not bring [together] a tree with a tree, nor greens with greens, nor a tree with greens, nor greens with a tree. R’ Yehudah permits greens with a tree.

One may not plant greens inside the stump of a sycamore, nor may one graft rue to cassia, as this is ‘‘greens with a tree.’’

[If] one invites his fellow to eat with him, and [his fellow] does not trust him regarding tithes, [his fellow] says on the eve of the Sabbath: ‘‘What I will separate tomorrow, let it be maaser [rishon], and the rest of the maaser [rishon] is next to it. This [portion] that I have made maaser [rishon] is made into terumas maaser for it; the maaser sheni is on its northern or southern [side], and is deconsecrated on the coins.’’

[When] they pour him a cup, he says: ‘‘What I will leave at the bottom of the cup, let it be maaser [rishon], and the rest of the maaser [rishon] is next to it. That [portion] that I have made maaser [rishon] is made into terumas maaser for it; and maaser sheni [is] in its mouth, and is deconsecrated on the coins.’’

A laborer who does not trust [his] employer takes one dried fig and says: ‘‘This and nine [dried figs] that come after it are made into maaser rishon for the ninety [dried figs] that I will eat. This one is made into terumas maaser for them; and maaser sheni [is] in the later [ones], and is deconsecrated on the coins,’’ and he refrains [from eating] one dried fig. Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel says: He should not refrain, because he [thereby] reduces his labor for the employer. R’ Yose says: He should not refrain, because it is a proviso of the court.

One who purchases wine from Cutheans says: ‘‘Two lugin that I will eventually separate, they are terumah; ten [lugin are] maaser [rishon], and nine [are] maaser sheni;’’ [and] he begins to drink.

[If] he has figs that are tevel in his home and he is in the study hall or in the field, he says: ‘‘Two figs that I will eventually separate, they are terumah; ten [figs are] maaser rishon, and nine [are] maaser sheni.’’ [If the figs] are demai, he says: ‘‘What I will separate tomorrow, let it be maaser [rishon], and the rest of the maaser [rishon] is next to it. That which I made maaser [rishon] is made into terumas maaser for it; and maaser sheni is on its northern or southern [side], and is deconsecrated on the coins.’’

[If] one has before him two baskets of tevel, and he said: ‘‘The tithe for this [basket] are in that [basket],’’ the first [basket] is tithed. [If he said:] ‘‘[The tithes] for this [basket are] in that [basket] and [those] for that [basket are] in this [one],’’ the first [basket] is tithed. [If he said:] ‘‘[Regarding] their tithes, the tithes [for each] basket [are] in the other] one,’’ he has verbally designated [tithes].

[If] one hundred of tevel [mixed with] one hundred of chullin, he takes out one hundred and one. [If] one hundred of tevel [mixed with] one hundred of maaser [rishon], he takes out one hundred and one. [If] one hundred of adjusted chullin [mixed with] one hundred of maaser [rishon], he takes out one hundred and ten. [If] one hundred tevel [mixed with] ninety of maaser [rishon], tithe, [or] ninety of tevel [mixed with] eighty of maaser [rishon], he has not lost anything. This is the rule: As long as the tevel is the majority, he has not lost anything.

[If] one had ten rows of ten jugs of wine [each], and he said: ‘‘[In] the outer row, one [jug] is maaser,’’ but it is not known which [row] this is, he takes two barrels diagonally [opposite each other]. [If he said:] ‘‘[In] half the outer row, one [jug] is maaser,’’ but it is not known which [half a row] this is, he takes four barrels from four corners. [If he said:] ‘‘[In one] row, one [jug] is maaser,’’ but it is not known which [row] this is, he takes one diagonal row [of barrels]. [If he said:] ‘‘[In] half a row, one [jug] is maaser,’’ but it is not known which [half a row] this is, he takes two diagonal rows [of barrels]. [If he said:] ‘‘[In] one barrel is maaser,’’ but it is not known which [barrel] this is, he takes from each barrel.
