הַסִּיטוֹן מְקַנֵּחַ מִדּוֹתָיו אַחַת לִשְׁלשִׁים יוֹם; וּבַעַל הַבַּיִת — אַחַת לִשְׁנֵים עָשָׂר חֹדֶשׁ. רַבָּן שִׁמְעוֹן בֶּן גַּמְלִיאֵל אוֹמֵר: חִלּוּף הַדְּבָרִים. חֶנְוָנִי מְקַנֵּחַ מִדּוֹתָיו פַּעֲמַיִם בַּשַּׁבָּת, וּמְמַחֶה מִשְׁקְלוֹתָיו פַּעַם אַחַת בַּשַּׁבָּת, וּמְקַנֵּחַ מֹאזְנַיִם עַל כָּל מִשְׁקָל וּמִשְׁקָל.
A wholesaler must clean his measures once in thirty days; and a householder, once in twelve months. Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel says: The reverse is true. A storekeeper must clean his measures twice a week, wipe his weights once a week, and clean the scales for every weighing.
