כָּל הַכֵּלִים הַנִּטָּלִין בַּשַּׁבָּת, שִׁבְרֵיהֶן נִטָּלִין עִמָּהֶן, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁיִּהְיוּ עוֹשִׂין מֵעֵין מְלָאכָה; שִׁבְרֵי עֲרֵבָה לְכַסּוֹת בָּהֶן אֶת פִּי הֶחָבִית, שִׁבְרֵי זְכוּכִית לְכַסּוֹת בָּהֶן אֶת פִּי הַפַּךְ.
רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹמֵר: וּבִלְבַד שֶׁיִּהְיוּ עוֹשִׂין מֵעֵין מְלַאכְתָּן; שִׁבְרֵי עֲרֵבָה לָצוֹק לְתוֹכָן מִקְפָּה, וְשֶׁל זְכוּכִית לָצוֹק לְתוֹכָן שֶׁמֶן.
All utensils which may be taken on the Sabbath, fragments of them may [also] be taken with them, provided they can [still] be used to perform some sort of task; [for example,] fragments of a mixing bowl with which to cover the mouth of a cask, [or] fragments of a glass with which to cover the mouth of a flask.
R’ Yehudah says: Provided they can [still] perform in the nature of their [former] task; [for example,] fragments of a mixing bowl into which to pour porridge, [or] fragments of a glass into which to pour oil.
