[If] someone plants his vineyard sixteen cubits, sixteen cubits . . ., it is permitted to bring seed there. R’ Yehudah said: It happened in Tzalmon that a certain individual planted his vineyard sixteen [cubits], sixteen cubits . . . And he used to turn the branches of two rows towards the same area and plant the plowed area, and the following year he would turn the branches to the other side and plant the barren area, and the story came before the Sages and they permitted [it]. R’ Meir and R’ Shimon say: Even if someone plants his vineyard eight [cubits], eight cubits . . ., it is permitted.
