A kettle that was removed [from the fire], one may not add cold water to it to heat it up, but he may add to it, or into a [hot] cup to make it lukewarm. A sealed pot or an [ordinary] pot which was removed [from the fire] while boiling, one may not add spices to them, but he may add [spices] into a bowl or into a tureen. R’ Yehudah says: One may add [spices] to anything, except something con-taining vinegar or brine.
