[There was] an incident: The people of Tiberias ran a pipe of cold water through a canal of hot springs. The Sages said to them: ‘‘If [it was done] on the Sabbath, it is like hot water that was heated on the Sabbath, [namely,] it is forbidden for [both] bathing and drinking; [if it was done] on a festival, it is like hot water that was heated on a festi-val, [namely,] it is forbidden for bathing but permitted for drinking.’’ A miliarium that was cleared [of its coals], we may drink from it on the Sab-bath. An antichi, even if it was cleared, we may not drink from it.
