[If] a barrel is outdoors, resting on its bottom, and an olive-sized piece of corpse is either underneath it or inside [the barrel] on its bottom, tumah penetrates upward and downward, and the barrel becomes tamei. [If the tumah is] outside [the barrel, but] underneath its side, tumah penetrates upward and downward, and the barrel remains tahor. [When the tumah is] inside [the barrel] and under its side — if there is a cubed handbreadth inside the sides [of the barrel], everything becomes tamei, [ex-cept what lies] directly below its mouth remains tahor. However, if there is less [than a cubed handbreadth], tumah penetrates upward and downward.
In what case does this apply? When [the barrel] is tahor. But if it is tamei, one handbreadth above ground, covered, or upside down, and there is tumah below, in-side, or above [the barrel], everything becomes tamei.
Ohalos10: 1
[If] there is a skylight that is the size of a square handbreadth in a house, [and] there is tumah in the house, whatever is directly opposite the skylight remains tahor. [If] the tumah is directly opposite the skylight, the house remains tahor.
Whether the tumah is in the house or directly opposite the skylight, [a person] who places his foot above [the skylight] combines the tumah.
[If] part of the tumah is in the house and part of it is opposite the skylight, the house becomes tamei, and whatever is directly opposite the tumah [also] becomes tamei.
Ohalos10: 2
[If] the skylight is smaller than a square handbreadth [and] there is tumah in the house, whatever is directly opposite the skylight remains tahor. [If] the tumah is di-rectly opposite the skylight, the house remains tahor.
[If] the tumah is in the house, [and a person] places his foot above [the sky-light], [the person] remains tahor.
[If] the tumah is opposite the skylight [and a person] places his foot above [the skylight], R’ Meir declares [him] tamei. However, the Sages say: If the tumah preceded the foot, [the person becomes] tamei; and if the foot preceded the tumah, [he re-mains] tahor. R’ Shimon says: [If] two feet, one above the other, preceded the tumah, and then the first person removes his foot while the second person’s foot remains in place, [the second person] remains tahor, because the first one’s foot preceded the tumah.
Ohalos10: 3
[If] part of the tumah is in the house and part of it is opposite the skylight, the house becomes tamei, and whatever is opposite the tumah [also] becomes tamei; these are the words of R’ Meir. R’ Yehudah says: The house becomes tamei, but whatever is opposite the skylight remains tahor. R’ Yose says: If the tumah is large enough that when divided in half it can contaminate both the house and whatever is opposite the tumah, [they are both] tamei; if not, the house becomes tamei, [and] whatever is opposite the tumah is tahor.
