The following transgress a negative commandment: the lender, the borrower, the guarantor, and the witnesses. And the Sages say: Even the scribe. They transgress: You shall not give (Leviticus 25:37), You shall not take from him (Leviticus v. 36), You shall not be to him as a creditor (Exodus 22:24), You shall not impose interest upon him (ibid.), and And before a blind man you shall not place a stumbling block, and you shall fear your God; I am Hashem (Leviticus 19:14).

[If] one hires craftsmen, and they mislead one another, they have nothing but resentment against one another. [If] he hired a donkey driver or a wagoner to bring wood for a litter or flutes for a bride or for a dead person, or laborers to remove his flax from the steeping water, or anything which may cause a loss, and they retracted —- in a place where there are no people, he may hire [other workers] in addition to them, or trick them.

[If] one hires craftsmen and they retract, they are at a disadvantage; if the hirer retracts, he is at a disadvantage. Whoever deviates is at a disadvantage, and whoever retracts is at a disadvantage.

[If] one rents a donkey to drive it on the mountain, and he drives it in the valley, [or] in the valley, and he drives it on the mountains —- even if this is ten mil and this is ten mil —- and it dies, he is liable. [If] one rents a donkey to drive it on the mountain, and he drives it in the valley —- if it slips, he is exempt; but if it dies from the heat, he is liable. [If he rents it] to drive it in the valley, and he drives it on the mountain —- if it slips, he is liable; but if it dies from the heat, he is exempt; if [it dies] because of the ascent, he is liable. [If] one rents a donkey, and it becomes blind or is seized for public service, he may say to him: “That which is yours is before you.” [If] it dies or breaks a leg, he is obligated to provide him with [another] donkey.
