עֲשָׂרָה יֹוֹחֲסִין עָלוּ מִבָּבֶל: כַּהֲנֵי, לְוִיֵּי, יִשְׂרְאֵלֵי, חֲלָלֵי, גֵּרֵי, וַחֲרוּרֵי, מַמְזֵרֵי, נְתִינֵי, שְׁתוּקֵי, וַאֲסוּפֵי. כַּהֲנֵי, לְוִיֵּי, וְיִשְׂרְאֵלֵי מֻתָּרִים לָבֹא זֶה בָזֶה; לְוִיֵּי, יִשְׂרְאֵלֵי, חֲלָלֵי, גֵּרֵי, וַחֲרוּרֵי מֻתָּרִים לָבוֹא זֶה בָּזֶה; גֵרֵי, וַחֲרוּרֵי, מַמְזֵרֵי, וּנְתִינֵי, שְׁתוּקֵי, וַאֲסוּפֵי כֻּלָּם מֻתָּרִין לָבֹא זֶה בָזֶה.
Ten genealogical classes went up from Babylon: Kohanim, Leviim, Yisraelim, chalalim, proselytes, freedmen, mamzerim, Nesinites, shesukim, and foundlings. Kohanim, Leviim, and Yisraelim may intermarry; Leviim, Yisraelim, chalalim, proselytes, and freedmen may intermarry; proselytes, freedmen, mamzerim, Nesinites, shesukim, and foundlings may all intermarry.
Kidushin4: 2
וְאֵלּוּ הֵם שְׁתוּקֵי: כֹּל שֶׁהוּא מַכִּיר אֶת אִמּוֹ וְאֵינוֹ מַכִּיר אֶת אָבִיו; אֲסוּפֵי: כָּל שֶׁנֶּאֱסַף מִן הַשּׁוּק וְאֵינוֹ מַכִּיר לֹא אָבִיו וְלֹא אִמּוֹ. אַבָּא שָׁאוּל הָיָה קוֹרֵא לִשְׁתוּקֵי: בְּדוּקֵי.
These are shesukim: Anyone who recognizes his mother, but does not recognize his father; foundlings: Anyone who was taken in from the street and does not recognize his father or his mother. Abba Shaul called shesukim: bedukim.
Kidushin4: 3
כָּל הָאֲסוּרִים לָבֹא בַקָּהָל מֻתָּרִים לָבֹא זֶה בָזֶה; רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אוֹסֵר. רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר אוֹמֵר: וַדָּאָן בְּוַדָּאָן — מֻתָּר. וַדָּאָן בִּסְפֵקָן, וּסְפֵקָן בְּוַדָּאָן, וּסְפֵקָן בִּסְפֵקָן — אָסוּר. וְאֵלּוּ הֵן הַסְּפֵקוֹת: שְׁתוּקִי, אֲסוּפִי, וְכוּתִי.
All who are prohibited to enter into the Congregation are allowed to intermarry with each other; R’ Yehudah prohibits [it]. R’ Eliezer says: Those who are definite[ly unfit] with those who are definite[ly unfit] is permitted. Those who are definite[ly unfit] with those who[se status is doubtful, those who[se status] is doubtful with those who are definite[ly unfit], and those who[se status] is doubtful with those who[se status] is doubtful are prohibited. Those who[se status] is doubtful are: a shesuki, a foundling, and a Cuthean.

הַנּוֹשֵׂא אִשָּׁה כֹהֶנֶת צָרִיךְ לִבְדּוֹק אַחֲרֶיהָ אַרְבַּע אִמָּהוֹת שֶׁהֵן שְׁמוֹנֶה: אִמָּהּ, וְאֵם אִמָּהּ, וְאֵם אֲבִי אִמָּה וְאִמָּהּ, וְאֵם אָבִיהָ וְאִמָּהּ, וְאֵם אֲבִי אָבִיהָ וְאִמָּהּ. לְוִיָּה וְיִשְׂרְאֵלִית — מוֹסִיפִין עֲלֵיהֶן עוֹד אֶחָת.
One who marries the daughter of a Kohen must investigate her through four mothers who are eight; her mother, her mother’s mother, her mother’s father’s mother and her mother, her father’s mother and her mother, and her father’s father’s mother and her mother. [If she is] the daughter of a Levi or a Yisrael, one more is added to them.
