עֶבֶד עִבְרִי נִקְנֶה בְּכֶסֶף וּבִשְׁטָר, וְקוֹנֶה אֶת עַצְמוֹ בְשָׁנִים, וּבְיוֹבֵל, וּבְגִרְעוֹן כֶּסֶף. יְתֵרָה עָלָיו אָמָה הָעִבְרִיָּה שֶׁקּוֹנָה אֶת עַצְמָהּ בְּסִימָנִין. הַנִּרְצָע נִקְנֶה בִּרְצִיעָה, וְקוֹנֶה אֶת עַצְמוֹ בְיוֹבֵל וּבְמִיתַת הָאָדוֹן.
A Jewish bondman is acquired with money or with a document, and acquires himself with years, or with Yovel, or with the deduction of money. A Jewish bondwoman has the advantage over him that she acquires herself with signs. One who[se ear] is bored is acquired by the act of boring, and acquires himself with Yovel or with the death of the master.

עֶבֶד כְּנַעֲנִי נִקְנֶה בְּכֶסֶף, וּבִשְׁטָר, וּבַחֲזָקָה. וְקוֹנֶה אֶת עַצְמוֹ בְכֶסֶף — עַל יְדֵי אֲחֵרִים, וּבִשְׁטָר — עַל יְדֵי עַצְמוֹ; דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי מֵאִיר. וַחֲכָמִים אוֹמְרִים: בְּכֶסֶף — עַל יְדֵי עַצְמוֹ, וּבִשְׁטָר — עַל יְדֵי אֲחֵרִים, וּבִלְבַד שֶׁיְּהֵא הַכֶּסֶף מִשֶּׁל אֲחֵרִים.
A Canaanite slave is acquired with money, with a document, or with an act of possession. He acquires himself with money —- through others, and with a document —- on his own; [these are] the words of R’ Meir. The Sages, however, say: With money —- on his own, and with a document —- through others, as long as the money is from others

בְּהֵמָה גַסָּה נִקְנֵית בִּמְסִירָה, וְהַדַּקָּה — בְּהַגְבָּהָה; דִּבְרֵי רַבִּי מֵאִיר וְרַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר. וַחֲכָמִים אוֹמְרִים: בְּהֵמָה דַקָּה נִקְנֵית בִּמְשִׁיכָה.
A large animal is acquired by mesirah, and a small one by being lifted; [these are] the words of R’ Meir and R’ Eliezer. The Sages, however, say: A small animal is acquired by meshichah.

נְכָסִים שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָהֶם אַחֲרָיוּת נִקְנִין בְּכֶסֶף, וּבִשְׁטָר, וּבַחֲזָקָה. וְשֶׁאֵין לָהֶם אַחֲרָיוּת אֵינָן נִקְנִין אֶלָּא בִמְשִׁיכָה. נְכָסִים שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם אַחֲרָיוּת נִקְנִין עִם נְכָסִים שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָהֶם אַחֲרָיוּת בְּכֶסֶף, וּבִשְׁטָר, וּבַחֲזָקָה; וְזוֹקְקִין נְכָסִים שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם אַחֲרָיוּת אֶת הַנְּכָסִים שֶׁיֵּשׁ לָהֶם אַחֲרָיוּת לִשָּׁבַע עֲלֵיהֶן:
Possessions which can have a lien on them are acquired with money, with a document, or with an act of possession, and [those] which cannot have a lien on them are acquired only with meshichah. Possessions which cannot have a lien on them are acquired together with possessions which can have a lien on them with money, with a document, or with an act of possession; and possessions which cannot have a lien on them cause [one] to swear concerning possessions which can have a lien on them.
