בֶּן קָטִין עָשָׂה שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר דַּד לַכִּיּוֹר, שֶׁלֹּא הָיוּ לוֹ אֶלָּא שְׁנָיִם; וְאַף הוּא עָשָׂה מוּכְנִי לַכִּיּוֹר שֶׁלֹּא יִהְיוּ מֵימָיו נִפְסָלִין בְּלִינָה.
מֻנְבַּז הַמֶּלֶךְ הָיָה עוֹשֶׂה כָּל יְדוֹת הַכֵּלִים שֶׁל יוֹם הַכִּפּוּרִים שֶׁל זָהָב.
הִילְנִי אִמּוֹ עָשְׂתָה נִבְרֶשֶׁת שֶׁל זָהָב עַל פִּתְחוֹ שֶׁל הֵיכָל; וְאַף הִיא עָשְׂתָה טַבְלָא שֶׁל זָהָב, שֶׁפָּרָשַׁת סוֹטָה כְתוּבָה עָלֶיהָ.
נִיקָנוֹר — נַעֲשׂוּ נִסִּים לְדַלְתוֹתָיו, וְהָיוּ מַזְכִּירִין אוֹתוֹ לְשֶׁבַח.
Ben Katin made twelve spouts for the laver, for it [formerly] had only two; he also made a machine for the laver so that its wa-ter should not become unfit by remaining overnight. King Monbaz made all the handles of the utensils [used] for Yom Kip-pur of gold. Helene, his mother, placed a golden candelabrum over the entrance to the Holy; she also made a golden tab-let, upon which the section [of the Torah] of the suspected adulteress was written. Nikanor —- miracles happened to his doors, and they used to laud him.

וְאֵלּוּ לִגְנַאי: שֶׁל בֵּית גַּרְמוּ לֹא רָצוּ לְלַמֵּד עַל מַעֲשֵׂה לֶחֶם הַפָּנִים; שֶׁל בֵּית אַבְטִינָס לֹא רָצוּ לְלַמֵּד עַל מַעֲשֵׂה הַקְּטֹרֶת; הֻגְרוֹס בֶּן לֵוִי הָיָה יוֹדֵעַ פֶּרֶק בְּשִׁיר וְלֹא רָצָה לְלַמֵּד; בֶּן קַמְצָר לֹא רָצָה לְלַמֵּד עַל מַעֲשֵׂה הַכְּתָב.
עַל הָרִאשׁוֹנִים נֶאֱמַר: ,,זֵכֶר צַדִּיק לִבְרָכָה”, וְעַל אֵלּוּ נֶאֱמַר: ,,וְשֵׁם רְשָׁעִים יִרְקָב”.
And these for censure: Those of the Garmu family did not want to teach [outsiders] about making the Panim Bread. Those of the Avtinas family did not wish to teach about making the incense. Hugros, a Levi, knew a special musical method but did not want to teach [it]. Ben Kamtzar did not want to teach the method of writing. About the first ones it is said: The mention of a righteous man is for a blessing. And about the others it is said: And the name of the wicked will rot.

טָרַף בַּקַּלְפִּי וְהֶעֱלָה שְׁנֵי גוֹרָלוֹת; אֶחָד כָּתוּב עָלָיו ,,לַשֵּׁם” וְאֶחָד כָּתוּב עָלָיו ,,לַעֲזָאזֵל”.
הַסְּגָן בִּימִינוֹ וְרֹאשׁ בֵּית אָב מִשְּׂמֹאלוֹ.
אִם שֶׁל שֵׁם עָלָה בִימִינוֹ, הַסְּגָן אוֹמֵר לוֹ: ,,אִישִׁי כֹהֵן גָּדוֹל, הַגְבַּהּ יְמִינְךָ”! וְאִם שֶׁל שֵׁם עָלָה בִשְׂמֹאלוֹ, רֹאשׁ בֵּית אָב אוֹמֵר לוֹ: ,,אִישִׁי כֹהֵן גָּדוֹל, הַגְּבַּהּ שְׂמֹאלְךָ”!
נְתָנוֹ עַל שְׁנֵי הַשְּׂעִירִים, וְאוֹמֵר: ,,לַה' חַטָּאת”. רַבִּי יִשְׁמָעֵאל אוֹמֵר: לֹא הָיָה צָרִיךְ לוֹמַר ,,חַטָּאת”, אֶלָּא ,,לַה' ”.
וְהֵן עוֹנִין אַחֲרָיו: ,,בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד.”
He snatched from the lottery box and picked up two lots; one had “For HASHEM” inscribed on it and one had “For Azazel” in-scribed on it. The Deputy Kohen Gadol [stood] at his right and the head of the family [on duty] at his left. If the [lot] of HASHEM came up in his right hand, the Deputy says to him, “My lord Kohen Gadol, raise your right hand!” If that of HASHEM came up in his left hand, the head of the family [on duty] says to him, “My lord Kohen Gadol, raise your left hand!” He puts it upon the two he-goats, and says, “For HASHEM —- a sin offering!” Rabbi Yishmael says: He did not have to say “a sin offering,” merely “For HASHEM!'' And they answer after him, “Blessed is the Name —- the glory of His Kingship —- forever and ever.”

קָשַׁר לָשׁוֹן שֶׁל זְהוֹרִית בְּרֹאשׁ שָׂעִיר הַמִּשְׁתַּלֵּחַ וְהֶעֱמִידוֹ כְּנֶגֶד בֵּית שִׁלּוּחוֹ. וְלַנִּשְׁחָט כְּנֶגֶד בֵּית שְׁחִיטָתוֹ.
בָּא לוֹ אֵצֶל פָּרוֹ שְׁנִיָּה, וְסוֹמֵךְ שְׁתֵּי יָדָיו עָלָיו וּמִתְוַדֶּה.
וְכָךְ הָיָה אוֹמֵר: ,,אָנָּא הַשֵּׁם, עָוִיתִי, פָּשַׁעְתִּי, חָטָאתִי לְפָנֶיךָ, אֲנִי וּבֵיתִי וּבְנֵי אַהֲרֹן עַם קְדוֹשֶׁךָ. אָנָּא הַשֵּׁם, כַּפֶּר נָא לָעֲוֹנוֹת וְלַפְּשָׁעִים וְלַחֲטָאִים, שֶׁעָוִיתִי וְשֶׁפָּשַׁעְתִּי וְשֶׁחָטָאתִי לְפָנֶיךָ, אֲנִי וּבֵיתִי וּבְנֵי אַהֲרֹן עַם קְדוֹשֶׁךָ, כַּכָּתוּב בְּתוֹרַת משֶׁה עַבְדֶּךָ: ,כִּי בַיּוֹם הַזֶּה יְכַפֵּר עֲלֵיכֶם לְטַהֵר אֶתְכֶם מִכֹּל חַטֹּאתֵיכֶם לִפְנֵי ה' תִּטְהָרוּ' ”.
וְהֵן עוֹנִין אַחֲרָיו: ,,בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד”.
He tied a strip of red wool to the head of the he-goat which was sent [to Azazel] and stood it facing its destination. And on the [he-goat] that was to be slaughtered, [he tied a strip] around its neck. Then he comes to his ox a second time and leans both hands upon it and confesses. He would say the following: “I beg of You, HASHEM, I have acted wickedly, rebelled, and sinned before You, I and my family, and the children of Aaron, Your holy people. I beg of You, HASHEM, forgive now the wicked acts, rebellions, and sins, for I have acted wickedly, rebelled, and sinned before You, I and my family, and the children of Aaron, Your holy people, as is written in the Torah of Your servant Moses: For on this day he will atone for you to purify you before HASHEM, from all your sins shall you be purified.” And they answer after him: “Blessed is the Name —- the glory of His Kingship —- forever and ever.”
