One may work with detached [produce] in Surya, but not with attached [produce]. One may thresh, winnow, tread, and heap, but one may not harvest, pick grapes, or pick olives. A rule was formulated by R’ Akiva: Whatever kind of activity is permitted in the Land of Israel may be done in Surya.

Onions which were rained upon and sprouted — if their leaves were dark, [they are] forbidden; [if] they become pale, they are permitted. R’ Chanina ben Antigonos says: If they can be plucked by their leaves, they are forbidden. Conversely, [in] the year following the seventh they are permitted.

From when is it permitted for a person to buy vegetables in the year following the seventh? From when comparable ones have been produced. [If] the early ripeners produced, the late ripeners are permitted. Rabbi permitted buying vegetables immediately following the seventh [year].

One may not take out oil which must be burnt or produce of the seventh [year] from the Land to outside the Land. R’ Shimon said: I have heard explicitly that one may take [seventh-year produce] out to Surya, but one may not take [it] outside the Land.
