[If] standing grain contains two seahs and he forgot it, it is not shich'chah. [If] it does not contain two seahs but it is capable of producing two seahs, even if it is of grasspea, we view it as if it were a kernel of barley.

Standing grain saves both a sheaf and standing grain. A sheaf saves neither a sheaf nor standing grain.  What standing grain is it that saves a sheaf? Any that is not forgotten, even one stalk.

A seah of detached grain and a seah of still-attached grain, and similarly with a tree, and garlic and onions, do not combine to [make up] two seahs; rather they are [the property] of the poor. R' Yose says: If the domain of the poor comes between them, they do not combine; but if not, then they do combine.

Grain that is given for fodder or for bindings, and similarly [stalks of] garlic for binding, bundles of garlic or onions, are not subject to the law of shich'chah.  All that are hidden in the ground, such as luf, garlic, and onions —- R' Yehudah says: They are not subject to the law of shich'chah; but the Sages say: They are subject to the law of shich'chah.
